This dark lager promises quite a bit with a beautiful dark see-through brown color, with a white head. It offers scents of malt and chocolate. However, the flavor isn't there. I was very disappointed to get a mouthfeel that felt more like an overcarbonation issue. There's a bit of the spices on the backend of the flavor pallete, but the initial taste is very much lacking.

I bought this as part of a collaboration pack, I wouldn't buy this one again.

Way back before the craft brew craze I used to get beer from a brewery in a restaurant. One of their specialties was the dark beer, and this reminds me of those old days. It pours out a beautiful dark thick color with a beautiful dark beer chocolaty smell. The taste has a strong sense of chocolate tempered by the bitterness. Good memories.

10/25/17...pours dark chocolatey brown, with very low foam. Still. Very light peppery citrus malt. Light chocolate lager taste, very thin. Fast finish. Thin mouthfeel. Creamy too. Very light bodied. Chocolate flavored lager.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into pint glass. Poured a dark chocolate brown with a dark cream colored head. Notes of chocolate and nuts on the nose. Reminded me of nuttelo.

Tastes of nut and cocoa crisp with a bit of bite at the end.

Good beer. Not very complex but easy to enjoy.

Brown in color and somewhat transparent with a 1 1/2 finger tan head that dissipates leaving just a ring around the glass.

Aroma of toasted nuts and light milk chocolate.

Taste of nutty malts and toffee.

Lightly crisp and lightly biting, with a bit of syrup, becoming drying in the end.

A good beer. Not complex, but very well rounded and easy drinking;.

A: Medium brown in color with a creamy tan head.

S: Caramel malt, with hints of chocolate, and perhaps a touch of peppers..? Some lager yeast aroma in the finish.

T: Rich caramel, and malt flavor. Some very interesting spice notes. I'm not getting too much of the chocolate, just a hint in the finish, but I am also getting a little bit of heat in the back of the throat, like peppers.

M: Medium in body, a touch creamy with moderate carbonation.

O: Overall a pretty interesting, and tasty brew. I wish they would tell what is in it.

Pretty good beer. Subtle hints of chocolate and coffee. Little light on the back end. Charlize Theron of beers. It was the best of the Devils Backbone mixed pack (out of 6 varieties). Would buy this on its own merits.
