22oz bomber purchased at McKinnon's in Salem, NH. Pours a hazy dark copper color with a short-lived quarter inch of light khaki head. Aroma hints at chocolate, toffee, and brown sugar. Roasty chocolate/coffee is immediately noticeable with some undertones of some brown sugar-like sweetness. Caramel and toffee notes also help balance the flavor, with some very slight notes or grassy and floral hops. An easy drinker with medium body and carbonation. Subdued, but balanced and an easy drinker for sure. A solid brew.

Pours a two-finger off-white head that fades quickly leaving no lace. Cloudy amber color, some yeast left in bottle. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Slight hoppy nose. Flavor is mildly hoppy, grainy and almost balanced. Lingering hoppy aftertaste. $3.79 for a 22oz bottle from The Meat House Pembroke, NH.

This beer poured a reddish tan body with a small white head.

Nose has a strong vegetable malt smell, not much more.

Taste is a mix of rotting vegatables with touches of malt. Very much a 6 row sort of malt taste. Touches of Belgian ale and brown ale. Touches of Belgian ale and even some earthy english hops, but overall there's this rotting skunky flavor. Ends with a lingering stunk.

Not sure if this was a bad bottle, but I'm sorry.. Alt, ctrl, Delete!! Nope, not again.

22oz bomber obtained for $3.79 at the Meat House in Pembroke, NH. Poured into a chilled pint glass.

A: Hazy brown brew, brown brown like Brown from a box of Crayolas. Thin white head that dissipates quickly.

S: The girlfriend says "it smells like beer" and I can't think of much more to say about it. Malt and hops. A hint of brown sugar, an even lesser hint of banana esters. Seems to develop with exposure to air.

T: Quite hoppy for a brown beer, hops pungent up front and lingering through long after it goes down the pipe. A little caramel, brown sugar, banana esters, lemon, some herbacious notes I can't identify. Complexity is not very prominent, only small notes of this and that which are hard to pick out. Really took some picking apart in order to find anything. Overall pretty unrefined.

Girlfriend says: "tastes more harsh than the stouts you've had me try. more sour."

Caramel flavors and smell really became more prominent as this gained exposure to air. Beer became much more well-rounded and complex as time went on.

M: Adequate carbonation. Somewhat dry up front, moderately dry finish. Alcohol mildly apparent.

D: Nothing special, but worthy of trying. Wouldn't seek it out again, but wouldn't pass it off if someone offered it to me. Still better than any macrobrew. The girlfriiend says "I like the Imperial Blonde better. That's one I'd keep in stock." I agree.

look: 2.5 | smell: 2.5 | taste: 1.5 | feel: 2 | overall: 2

Appearance: Poured a slightly cloudy brown. One finger white head that disappears immediately. no visible carbonation. No lacing. Looks "dead".

Smell: Malts and sour apple. An off-smell that is hard to describe; kind of like an old can of chicken soup or a smoker's breath.

Taste: Flat, with off flavors like canned soup. No real flavors. I know its a beer, but it tries really hard to hide that fact.

Mouthfeel: Thin to medium bodied. Flat.

Drinkability: Doesn't really taste like an Altbier; or any beer for that matter. I am open to most kinds of beer, but I really couldn't even finish half a pint of this one.

Buy Again: No.

Not my favorite beer from this brewery. In a pilsner glass the beer was a hazy medium brown color with a thin, quickly dissipating head. It had a sweet caramel aroma. The taste followed the aroma, but in a scaled down version. It was pretty thin and watery. Not a great example of an altbier.

Overall a nice beer. Small head that dissapates quickly. Deep brown color. Lightly carbonated.
Smell: Slightly roasty, definate malt aroma
Taste: Malty, roasty, nice balance with the bitterness
Mouthfeel: Medium body
Drinkability: Goes down well. I would buy again.

hmmm, this is almost an altbier. the nose is very sweet but the taste is kind of flat and one dimensional. i think i could put a few of these away but i'm not really drawn to it in terms of taste. the color is kind of cloudy brown with a head that lingered for about two seconds. overall really not that impressed, hopefully as i get around to trying all of their beers i will find one that can be a stand by.

22 oz. bomber for $3.99.

A nice, reddish amber color with major swirrling bubbles, sticky lace, slow retention from the 1" off-white head.

A very sweet malty aroma, caramel and some slightly tangy-honey aroma in the back. honey wheat bread, brown sugar, smokey caramel, gentle fruity hops for balance.

The malt is the star of the show, smoke and caramel, pine tree and pineapple hops come on fast to provide good balance. The hop flavor is fresh and pretty complex, the malt taste's very English with toffee and roastieness deep down.

Not at all a bad Alt.

Pours a slightly cloudy deep copper/brown with a thinnish off white head that dissipates quickly but leaves a cap on the top. Smells of brown sugar and lightly roasted grains. Slight floral hop in the aroma. Taste starts with brown bread, sugar, then a bit of a hop bite or possibly and alcohol burn?/. Lingering bitterness or astringency in the finish. Medium Carbonation, watery mouthfeel, medium body. Good alt, not great.

Thanks to a generous trader for this extra ;)

Poured into my stange glass.

Pours 1 finger of creamy light tan head, very thick. Very good retention with thick lace rings. Color is a dark chocolate copper brown. Looks great.

Aroma: sweet sugary malts. Caramel. Grassy hops.

Taste: Too much grassy hops and not enough malts. Tons of hops, caramel, some malts, but again, not enough. Light flavor for the most part.

Mouthfeel: Bitter and crisp. Way overcarbonated. Light bodied for an alt. Not what I expected here.

Overall, for an alt, this didn't meet my expectations. The mouthfeel was a big let down and it was overhopped. Just not something I would consider as an alt. I am glad I got the chance to try it though.

Well it has a great name, and you can tell it's an alt beer. It even shows a picture of a keyboard with all buttons stating alt ctrl del. What else could a beer geek ask for? Well except a good tasting beer.

A: It pours ridiculously flat, like the beers I have when I just put them on my kegger and they haven't carbonated yet but I'm itching to try it. The very light airy head is pretty much nonexistent as it passes like some distant memory and leaves a clear brown top with no head at all. There is nothing a guy wants more than a good head, and beer. Its also got a weird ominous brown dirty water color like the water that you see running down the alley of a rusty old dank... um, alley.

N: Nose has somewhat of a bock but lighters and not so good. Very light nose with some light sugars almost burnt brown sugar but not quite. So barely sweet malts and slight raisin. Almost a past its prime malt nose as well. This beer is not lookin so good so far.

T: Starts with more sweet but dank malts. Its got this really weird ebbing flavor that can't really be described except perhaps raisins dipped in year old prune juice and fermented malts. Its pretty weird tasting. Alts can be weird but this is just weird of all weird. Pretty sweet too thats not so great. Its also got this bad extract like taste, almost Caro corn syrup like taste, and almost a touch of salt (really, it does have a weird ((weird again)) salty quality to it).

M: Semi thin but not too thin, no carbonation and slightly creamy.

F: It actually finishes kinda bitter with some hop bitterness, but no hop taste. The bitter hop taste is complete contrast to this weird malty fruity taste. Its almost like having a PB&J sandwich (it doesn't taste anything like that its just a metaphor) with tunafish or something wrong. The bitterness almost belongs in an alt, but not so much this one. Its also an earthy nagging bleh malt taste that goes with the bitterness and just makes you want to chug a bottle of anything better. Its still pretty sweet and weird rotten fruit tastes. It almost seems as if this beer is way too old, except that it just showed up on the store shelves a few weeks ago.

Final thoughts: Well Alt beers are usually strange and unusual, and sometimes weird, but that's all I can describe this beer as, not so great and weird. It has a lot of off flavors and seems more like an extract beer to me that didn't go so well. I'm glad this was only $4 for a 22oz bomber. I also got the oatmeal stout, so I wonder how bad that will be. When I was experimenting to try out my brand new brewing equipment I made a much better alt than this.

Poured in to a pint glass.

A: This beer pours a hazy, ruddy brown color. No head and no lacing to speak of.

S: Nose is caramel malts, hints of toffee, and grassy, earthy hops.

T: Taste is weak caramel malts. Pale malts, and very heavy grainy flavoring through the middle. Finish is of a earthy, grassy nature.

M: Lighter side of medium body, low carbonation, somewhat oily.

D: Goes down relatively easily, not filling, but the flavoring on this is extremely weak. You have to really search for any flavoring.

From the 1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle with no lot code or expiration date. Sampled on June 20, 2009. The pour is a darker brown with a generous dose of puffy, beige head. It dissolves after a few moments. The aroma is a mix of sweetness, hops, and grains. The mouthfeel is a bit carbonated but creamy. The taste is a subtle balance of hops and licorice with a slightly dry finish. I will say that it was a decent experience.

A- pours a hazy brown with a small foamy head. Leaves a respectable lacing on the glass.

S- A mellow, sweet bready maltiness. Pleasant...

T- A mild bready sweetness upfront fades to an earthy hoppiness. Nice balance.

M- A bit thin and watery. Carbonation is on the flat side.

D- OK... A very sessionable brew. A bit more body and carbonation, would do wonders for this brew.

Thanks goes out to barleywinefiend for sending me this as an extra. Thanks Josh!

Pours a dark brown with copper highlights. About half a finger of light tan head, with decent retention and nice lacing.

The nose is sweet malts, some caramel and toffee. A light earthyness comes right in the finish, possibly a faint hop character.

Malts across the board in the taste department. Sweet caramel malts, toffee, dried fruits such as raisins and figs, prunes even. It sounds good in theory, but it's not put together very well unfortunately.

Light in body, with an extremely high carbonation, something I have a documented disliking of. Drinkability isn't the greatest.

Not my thing, I guess. Even though it's an Altbier, I would have liked to see a little more hop character in there. This is a style that I probably won't ever be too fond of, but even so I don't think this is a great example.
