Located in the Arts District by Little Tokyo. Really unique sausages, i had the pheasant. Solid selection of German and Belgian beer. Bar and picnic tables up front and order food around the back. Service at the bar was great with attentive and knowledgable staff however around the back for food the staff was a little short with me. I got there for a late lunch and it wasn't busy but it started to fill up by the time i left. I'd recommend it

This place is located near Little Tokyo in the Arts District. I went today around 3 p.m. to miss the crowd. Good thing. I got right in, ordered and got my food quickly. For the most part, it's a nice atmosphere. You order and pay for your food at the front, get a number, and sit in a communal area in the back with a bar. There's also an outdoor seating area.

I ordered the rabbit and pork sausage with some fries. I thought my sausage was dry. I don't know if they cooked it well since it had pork in it. I was expecting something more juicy. Since there are reviews here about the rattlesnake and rabbit sausage being good, I'll try that next time. The fries were good. I really liked some of their mustards like dijon and honey mustard.

I didn't order any beer, just had water.

I'll be back, got to try something else. Today wasn't a home run, unfortunately.

Seriously this place is rad. Cool spot in the arts district of LA. Amazing rattlesnake rabbit and jalapeño sausage with some crispy Belgian fries. It seems that people mainly come here for the crazy sausages but really you can't forget all the amazing Belgian beers here. This place is worth the drive, wait and not so great parking. Cool place to hang out.

I love this place 24 Belgian, and German beers on tap, with another 24 in bottles, along with the best Belgian fries and sausages in So Cal. You just can't go wrong. Do'nt forget to get their toasted apple pie ice cream sandwich for your dessert. A very chill place to hang.

This biergarten started my love for beer, so with that being said, wurstkuche is a must. Anyways, its kinda hard not to be impressed by rabbit and snake sausage adjunct with double deep friend Belgian fries and paired with an 1809 Berliner Weisse. From their impeccable sausage selection to their extensive tap system and bottled beer menu, this place is nothing less than amazing. Aside from the pricingand the prowling one must do to find people who may be leaving their table, this place is awesome and highly recommended

It's hard not to love a place that has rabbit sausage, Belgian fries and 25+ quality beers on tap.

The sausages and fries are so good I've gone a few times at lunch and didn't even drink a beer. gasp.

You order in one small room, order and get your beer, then walk down a hallway into a much bigger room, find a place to sit with your number and wait for food. Kind of an odd service style but it works for the most part.

I typically prefer hoppy beers which is not the style here. This is a German and Belgian beer joint and while all of the taps are really great beers, none are hard to find and they hardly ever rotate.

I have had mixed experiences. Sometimes I've waiting a really long time to order, even longer to get food, and sometimes I just eat, drink, drink some more and leave without a hiccup. I would never give a bad review because the line is too long, but I have had some problems getting served because they attract such a big crowd. Just syin...

Atmosphere- Think a classic German beergarten that was completely redecorated by a modernist. The social atmosphere is great, the people are great. A good time had by all.

Quality- Cleanliness and care is clearly put into all aspects of this operation, down to their cucumber flavored water. Their beer is all high quality, and so is their food.

Service- Not much service by design. Order at a counter and self-service water... but they do bring your food to your table. The service that you DO get by design is quite good.

Selection- Not a great selection by measure of quantity, but definitely a great selection by measure of quality. Many great German beers here, as you would expect (including a Berliner Weisse), but also a number of Belgian and US beers on the list to balance things out!

Food- I had the rattlesnake and rabbit sausage with peppers and onions. It was just superb. The side of fries was had with chipotle aioli, and that was about average.

Overall- A place I very much look forward to revisiting!

This place is a madhouse from 5 to 7 p.m. The loft scene and young professionals all empty into this place after work for their fries and obscure bratwursts. The line for food is a bit ridiculous for what amounts to a highbrow Pink's but to each his own, this site is not called Hotdogadvocate.com.

The beers are fairly one note with plenty of german/belgian offerings. Of note they had Duvel Green and some other rare beers but the pricing, $9 at times, is a bit too much given the location and atmosphere. I guess this place is better than Angel City brewing, but it just isn't worth the money and hectic madness. Sitting on park table benches isn't amazing either. Parking situation is a nightmare. These things aren't exactly dispositive but it certainly is a drawback.

Don't avoid, but you may feel that sparing visits may be warranted.

Wurstkuche. Although I live nowhere near this place, I've been there about a half dozen times. Largely due to a very close friends in-laws living nearby, and been invited to join them for lunch. Great local spot that has really exploded from when it first opened and I got a chance to check it out. Forewarning, if you go on some days, there WILL be a line to order.

I would designate this spot as good beer spot (though nothing extreme, or rare that you might find at say Surly, Verdugo, Blue Palms, etc.), that carries some local So Cal brews from time to time (Bootleggers comes to mind) but mostly focuses on German Beers, along with a nice selection of Belgians.

The main draw though is the food. You select what type of sausage, bun (or no bun) toppings, dressings, and any sides, along with your beer order. Your given a number for your food, your beer, and then have to find a spot to eat on the other side of the kitchen while you wait for your order. There is a 2nd bar there as well if your not interested in the food, but if you’re at Wurstkuche, I highly recommend having food, since it's such a large draw, and is pretty good too.

All in all, the spot brings a good amount of life ( and quality beer) to this neighborhood, that has seen some revitalization over the last 10 years. Growing up in the 1980's, the area was pretty run down, and while there are still some remnants of that, locally business seem to be coming back, as well as families to rent lofts, which is great, and Wurstkuche is a part of that community.

Been to this place many times before, now it's time for a review.

The atmosphere is awesome, and it attracts not so many beer geeks as it does artists, hipsters, families (staring at a rather large one right now), and people who loves them some German beers with their brats.

Speaking of brats, the selection is phenomenal, and a quick internet search will reveal the variety of both the traditional and exotic they serve, as well as Belgian style fries and several dipping sauces meant to pair with said fries.

The beer selection, to the beer geek, may appear to be a different story. Don't expect to come here for rotating tapes, but do expect plenty of taps of Belgian, German, and presently three American beers. Also plenty of Belgian and German beers in bottle as well. Most of the beers are quality (the Pabst Blue Ribbon is probably there to placate the undoubtedly recurring Hipster crowd) and includes well-knowns such as Optimator, Chimay White, Allagash White, etc. This place is less concerned with keeping up with Beer Geek Times and more about offering a well-established lineup meant to complement and contrast the food, while at the very least offering refreshment to those here for the exotic brats and fries.

The quality of the food is excellent. I am pairing one of my favorite brats - the rabbit, veal, and pork sausage with white wine - with an Allagash White, and it pairs beautifully (thank you lovely woman at the cash register; more on the service in a moment). The strong, yeasty, spicy, herbal notes pair well with the game-y yet delicate flavors of the brat, which is also topped with kraut and grilled onions. More of a complement than a contrast, but so what? There are plenty of other excellent brat-with-beer-combinations, so don't be afraid to ask the servers for a recommendation.

As far as the service is concerned, it's good. I tested the gastronomical instinct of the woman at the register by asking what I should pair my brat with, Allagash or Kolsh, and she impressed me by suggesting the former. Here is where it could improve slightly: get another damn register. The line is way too long, and while I understand it's presently a spacing issue they need to improve upon this.

Another issue for me (and many others apparently) is the price. An Allagash White and an exotic brat, which isn't large either, cost me $15.00 at least.

Bottom line, everything is tasty, service is good, atmosphere is excellent, but you pay an arm and a leg for it. It's worth it in the end but not necessarily on a regular basis.

You enter through a small cafeteria-like front room, where you order food and/or beer. The grill and cold-case are up here along with the cash registers and a small wall of custom taps (which replicate the offerings in the main bar). Someone will come take your order if the line is long and bring your beer to you while you wait in line (a nice touch).You pay up front and another server brings your food to your table (by tracking down your number placard). Service is friendly, knowledgable, and prompt.

Eclectic, friendly, relaxed, younger crowd fills up the large dining hall in back (which has a couple subdivisions of smaller tables if you don't want to sit at the long communal benches. A wall-length bar is on one side of the room, while a DJ is squeezed into a corner. It is rather loud (at least when it fills up in the evening), but not so much that you can't have a conversation with the person next to you.

Beers are served in appropriate branded glassware - in quantities clearly stated on the menu. The beer seemed fresh, and the tap-lines clean, the only criticism I can levy is that some of the Belgian styles are served a bit too cold. Bottle list is a good extension of the tap-list. Plenty of offerings from Spaten, Reissdorf, Bitburger, Aventinus, Erdinger, Uerige, Aecht, etc on the German side; St. Bernardus, Chimay, Golden Carolus, Chouffe, La Trappe, etc on the Belgian. Sours are decently represented as well from Berliner Weisse to Flanders Red - they know their beers here. For those wanting to throw money around, you can even order jeroboams of Chimay or methuselahs of Duvel. Not sure how often the selection changes, but they keep an updated menu online. Their craft soda selection is superior as well.

The sausages are slightly small, but well made and very tasty (augmented by a variety of house-made toppings and mustards). Fries are on the larger side, and perfectly cooked/seasoned.

Prices are somewhat high ($6 - $11 for draught beers...not counting the $2.50 PBR; $5.75 - $7.50 for sausages; the exotics aren't any more flavorful than the classics by the way)...but for an occasional premium "beer garden" fix, it is worth stopping in.

Space is pretty utilitarian, some tables and some benches.

Mostly belgian and german offerings, plus Allagash White, Old Raspy and PBR(!). Full list is on their website. Beers are a bit pricey.

While they have a pretty eclectic selection of sausages, the quality isn't anything to rave about. They're tasty, but how amazing can sausages be? Sausages start around $6.50, and aren't too big. The fries are good and they have a wide selection of dipping sauces.

We go when we visit friends who live in the area, but probably wouldn't go otherwise.

Place is a Gem.

Really liked the atmosphere when I walked in, friendly service up front. New age German hipster feel, but really liked it. Very clean.

The food was outstanding. There was a huge selection of different sausages and exotics. I ended up with the rattlesnake & rabbit. Ridiculously tasty and I felt the food was reasonably priced 7.50 for my dog witch was the most expensive.

The beer selection was great for the place, large list of German and Belgian's on tap and 2 North Americans (Allagash White, Old Rasputin and PBR). The beer was a little pricey which is not uncommon in craft beer, but it was more then I would expect to pay.

In all I had a wonderful experience and would defenitly make another trip there.

I love the food here...LOVE...My usual is the duck/bacon/Jalapeno with onions and kraut. I've had most of the sausages however, and they are lovely. The fries (with truffle oil glaze) are the best in Los Angeles. And I'm saying that as a lifelong native.

But for the love of god, just because you're in downtown doesn't mean the only american beer you should have on tap is fucking PBR. Get a clue and put some california IPAs on draft. Sausages and IPAs are a combo sent from the heavens. Get with it WorstCoochie!

Stopped in here on my recent Southern California trip. This was about two blocks from my friend's new loft. It is located in downtown LA. I can't speak tor how the parking situation is as I walked here. The area seemed a little rough at night.

When you walk into the space, you immediately hit the counter area. The ordering process is pretty simple: grab a paper menu, place your sausage and/or beer orders, add any sides, and grab your number and wait for your food. When I arrived the line was not bad, but it quickly was out the door. The seating area is down a long hallway. There is a lot of room inside, although the night we went we elected to eat outside. They also have a bar in the dining room area.

The beer selection definitely veers towards Euro offerings, particularly Belgians. The only American drafts they had were Old Rasputin, PBR, and Allagash White. They had a lot of nice Euro beers including Duvel Green, Delerium Nocturnum, Aventinus, St. B Abt 12, and Chimay White. The beer prices were quite expensive. They go anywhere from $2.50 for a PBR to $11 for an Aventinus. They do a good job of updating their current selection and prices on their website. They do use the proper glassware for their beers.

The sausages were very good. They have a lot of different varieties that range in price from $6.00 to $7.75. I had a Duck, Bacon, Jalapeno sausage that was very good. The fries we got were not as good as I expected, but the dipping sauces are very good. I recommend the curry ketchup and chipotle ketchup.

I would describe this as a more expensive version of Rosamunde/Toronado in SF. The food was good, but the beers were very expensive. I would go back due to the proximity to my buddy's loft, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here.

This is simply one of the really cool and neat new places in Los Angeles. Located in a bit of a weird place that's initially hard to find, it's worth the effort.

Beer selections are very good with nice varieties on tap and bottles. A good "beer bar" in and off itself and worthy of a special trip if relatively close by.

However, the sausages are first rate! The Rabbit, Duck and Rattlesnake should not be missed. Fantastic. Don't even bother with a bun or toppings. The sausage itself is the star.

Best french fries you will ever have....period.

This is worthy of a special trip. Take your wife or husband; take a date; this is a fun, cool, hip and nice place. You'll like it and you'll make plans to come back while you're still there eating and drinking!

I used to hate Los Angeles. With the discovery of this place, I've found that any visit to that accursed town can be mellowed with a hot sausage and a glass of beer from this most remarkable of specialty restaurants.

While a little hard to find (you have to approach from just the right angle to spot the distinctive yellow and red door), the atmosphere is great. The decor is almost industrial, very modern, with few frills. The tables are covered in butcher paper and anything not made out of wood is concrete or molded iron. The center of the room has long tables arranged cafeteria style. There is a long bench along the wall with smaller tables for those who are afraid of high school flashbacks. A small outdoor area is also available. Indie music on the stereo, but kept to a reasonable volume. Otherwise, nothing to distract you from your meal.

The beer selection is mostly Belgian/German, with pilsners and abbey brews dominating. They also threw in a British belgian-style and some American choices, leading to the entertaining incongruity of reading "Old Rasputin, Pabst Blue Ribbon". The selection is not overly extensive and the staff is familiar with it, able to recommend the right beer for your wurst and palate.

The sausages are the real reason I come here, as I'm sure it is for anyone. You can't lose. From the standard bratwursts, kielbasas and hot links to those composed of exotic meats, fruits, and cheeses, there is something there that will please you and the adventurous gourmand is well rewarded. My favorite thus far has been the Rattlesnake & Rabbit with Jalepeno. Fries are heavily breaded and are tasty, and there is a selection of ten - TEN - dipping sauces therefore, in addition to the no less than three mustards on every table.

Be warned, however, that it takes a bit to cook the sausages. Expect to be waiting about 10-15 minutes, even when it's slow. However, you get your beer right away and the food shows up still sizzling, the sausage's skin crispy, the meat juicy and tender, the bread soft and the fries salty and sweet.

Pricing is reasonable. Perhaps a bit high, but you definitely feel better for paying $7.50 for a single sausage once you eat it.

Go, and be happy.

This place is a bit hard to find for a tourist; in a sort of run-down "artsy" neighborhood away from downtown. The exterior is a non-descript industrial building and the interior is rather stark exposed rafters, picnic tables, outdoor steel cafe tables and chairs. The bar in the main dining room is pretty cool with a row of giant Chimay bottles lined up on the back bar.

Excellent beer and food. The menu is nothing but sausage with various toppings and sauces and "Belgian" fries. I had the bratwurst with kraut and onions which was near perfection. The fries were also outstanding and available with a variety of dipping sauces.

The beer menu is also noteworthy. On draft, they have 12 Belgians and 10 Germans. Three American beers on tap: Rasputin, Allagash and PBR! Several more choices in bottles; mostly Belgian. I had a 500ml Optimator for $6.00.

Service was kind of a weak point. You order your food and beer at the front door and then your meal is delivered to a table that you have selected. I was there on a weekday at lunch with only 3 other tables occupied. It seemed to take about 15 minutes for the (rather simple) food to arrive. I hate to think what it would be like on a busy weekend night.

Overall, I enjoyed the beer and food but this place isn't really my style. If it were relocated to an old neighborhood in St. Paul I might become a regular.

Eating sausages with beer is a delight, but eating gourmet sausage with gourmet beer is enough to fullfill anyone's culinary fantasy. The place is a little hole in the wall south of Union Station. the interior is small, with seating for 12 in eye-catching red seats. Bright colored wood make a great contrast with the faded brick which made up the upper half of the walls. Loud, but mellow music with quality speakers helped make this place to unwind as a waited for and ate/drank my order.

Over 20 taps behind the counter, with the focus on German and Belgian beers. A printed beer menu shows you what type of beer, the ABV, and the serving size of a given beer. Goodies on draft include Aventinus, Reissdorf Kolsch, Gouden Carolus, Delirium Nocturum, Allagash White, and Tripel Karmeliet. There were a handful of bottled offerings, but I went for a draft of Reissdorf Kolsch. The beers were served in an amazing manner. They were fresh, served in proper glassware, and served at a cool, but not cold temperature. (update: I've even gotten La Trappe Quadrupel in its own glass here!) There is one major downside to the beer, and it is the price per pour on most. $11 for draft Aventinus?! Most will be in the $6-8 range.

Now the highlight...the food. Oh dear science, they did it right. The bratwurst I had had a phenominal flavor and rivals the best brats I've ever tasted. It comes served with two toppings of your choice. It brats aren't for you, they have over 20 varieties of sausage to choose from tradtional ones to more exotic flavors. Oh, and get an order of fries...truly awesome stuff. The best fries I ever tasted, period! Freshly cut pomme frites, never frozen, and served with your choice of unique dipping sauce.

There are enough good taps to excite a beer geek, but when you can add on great presentation of the beer with awesome....that makes for a destination which is not to be missed.

A new beer haunt in Los Angeles proper. They keep popping up - love it. LA's slowly losing the "wasteland" reputation.

Had dinner here with a friend tonight. Really nice atmosphere - ordering is a little clumsy, but the selection of food, Belgian and German beer is outstanding. Plenty of taps, and a good solid selection. I had a Leffe Brune and between us we knocked back a couple of Erdinger Dunkelweizens. The beer was perfect and cold (which for me is a biggie).

But the food is the real deal. It's all about the sausages. Really great, unique beer food. I highly recommend this new spot.

I consider this place more of a restaurant than a beer bar because of the way it's arranged and the crowd that goes there.

Clean wooden tables alonside sooty looking red brick walls. The bathrooms were pretty clean though.

Service was quick and attentive and they have examples of all the type of sausage you can have by the ordering counter. I had the rattlesnake and rabbit (which was good) and the alligator (or crocodile, I always get the too confused) and pork which was tasty but a bit dry.

They had a pretty good selection of German and Belgian beer, a bit on the pricey side though. My bro ended up getting a Kostrizker and because they had Chimay, I decided to stick with that. I saw some damn hipster drinking a PBR. Why do all the LA yuppies and hipster drink PBR? I feel like I'm stuck in the movie Blue Velvet and have to listen to Dennis Hopper talk abotu PBR.

All in all, the food is pretty good, the beer is good, and definitely worth checking out. The place is rather small though and narrow.

a good place to have a sausage and a brew. they specialize in Belgian beers and have a couple german and domestic (remember Old Rasputin and PBR).

really chill atmosphere, decent sized back room, crowd was mellow, and parking is pretty easy (the place is in the artist district, 2 blocks east of little tokyo).

the staff is great--they let me try samples of different beers and humored my appeal to vary their tap list (they have 26 taps in the front entrance and want the same beers on the 26 taps in the back).

prices are pretty average for belgian beer in la ($8-10), but what pushed me to select "a bit pricey" were their sausages. they have a variety of gourmet sausages ranging from brats to rattlesnake+rabbit. very yummy, but a bit pricey.

nonetheless, looking forward to my next visit. Trying to have a meeting there since its pretty spacious and not too loud. and good belgian brew doesn't hurt.

new notes for 02/09:
the line for ordering food/beer can get pretty long and since there is only one cashier, it can take a while . . . felt like i was in line 30 min to only put my order in, then i had to wait to be served. staff is still super cool and try to put a beer in your hand asap, but the setup should be rethought or expanded.
