Stopped here last August with my brother on our last leg of NC to WI fantasy football draft/beer tour extravaganza. I've been to several Old Chicago locations in different states, this one was a huge disappointment. We stopped here for dinner and they only had 2 local beers available, neither of which was memorable and the waitress didn't seem to know what they were. The food was below average for an Old Chicago. Not a stop for beer as their selection is about as good as BW3 or Hooters. Don't waste your time.

Visited on a Friday night at 5pm & it was hopping.
Very comfortable & fun atmosphere.
I had a half pint Sierra Nevada Abbey Quad, which
was the only brew that jumped out at me on the list.
It was quite good.
Service was a little slow but they were very busy.
Everyone was at least friendly.
I felt the selection could've been more diverse & exotic.
Pizza was pretty good.
I'd like to go back eventually & try some other menu items.

Beer selection was above average. I'm sold on the idea of 'The Tour of Beers', I just wish I lived closer. Food and service were both excellent.

Old Chicago is not one of my top recommended spots in Lexington to enjoy a beer.

Highlights of last visit (April 18, 2009):
Goose Island Honker's Ale (on tap)
Boulder Brewing Single Track Pale Ale (on tap)

Old Chicago, a restaurant chain owned by Rock Bottom and boasts 120 beers and hand crafted pizzas and calzones, finally found their way to the Hamburg Pavillion area of Lexington in August of 2008.

They currently have 30 beers on tap with the remaining 90 available in bottles. The beers range from Flying Dog, Tommy Knocker, Breckenridge, Chimay, and Boulder Brewing to Heineken, Becks, Killians, Blue Moon, and Corona. They have their share of Budweizer, Coors, and Miller products but the majority of their beers are among the more common craft beers that are distributed to the central Kentucky area. Out-of-towners may enjoy all three local products from the Lexington Brewing Company as well as a few from the nearby Bluegrass Brewing Company. As expected from a relatively new establishment, the beers were all fresh, the lines clean, and the beers were generally served in proper glassware, albeit very cold.

The service was quite attentive and eager to help. However, they think they know more about the beer than they really do. I found myself slightly annoyed by the confidence in which they spoke, even about well-known beer facts that they continually got wrong.

The location of the restaurant is very close to the Man O' War Boulevard exit and I-75 interchange and very close to the Liquor Barn-Hamburg location that is also a bright beer store in the area. Other than the slightly-better-than-average Buffalo Wild Wings, there are no other real beer bars in this heavily suburban area.

The establishment feels much more like a restaurant than a bar bar, so to welcome families and children alike. The feel is much like an Applebee's or O'Charlie's than an indepentently owned beer bar. The deep dish pizzas and calzones certainly hit the spot but struggle to compete with the quality commonly found inside the Chicago city limits.

There are enough tv's to make game-watching worthwhile, but still not a sports bar. Like all other Old Chicago establishments they offer "The world beer tour" where all purchased beers are recorded into their central database and make patrons eligable for specials, awards, and recognition.

Since it's opening, I have been out the the Old Chicago three times. I've enjoyed the pizza and beers quite well. You'll be hard pressed to find any beers that aren't commonly found elsewhere in Lexington. But this beer selection in this area is much needed. There are multiple hotels in the area and a lot of shopping options for visitors to Lexington. The bar is worth a stop if in the area.

If you visit the bar for a pint or two, drop me a beer mail; I could likely meet you there for the pints and beer talk.
