What a joke. A supposed beer theme but all they had was crap that Budweisser owns. No thanks.
Tacky decor looks like someone won a gift card to Garden ridge and said "Hi I need 12 big mirrors. You don't have any that match no problem, the idiots that come here will never know"

Server was uneducated and uninterested.

Food. . . They have a big food menu but the selections were disappointing. Not sure what the theme is supposed to be. Chicken was awful.

Prices are high on beer, low on food. I will not be returning.

The business part of my day was over, and it was time for a pint. This place wasn't number one on my list, but my junkfood junkie coworker wanted to try chicken and waffles, and this place had it, so after two shakes of a GPS there we were.

In a upscale stripmall/boxstore area, it looked like a chain restaurant from the outside, just like it did inside. Sure it's nice and clean and looked brand new, but maybe a little too uppity for my taste. We sat at the bar, which was a wise choice, our bartender was a nice guy and service was quick.

Selection was pretty underwhelming, if not borderline not Beerfly worthy. 16 taps, but most of them were macros, fake micros ala Blue Moon/Amber Bock, the imports were mega brewery selections of the Stella/Guinness variety. The only two decent brews were the Goose island IPA and the Kentucky Bourbon barrel ale. Bottle selection was weak as well. My IPA tasted fresh enough, but was awfully too cold (the tap was made out of ice), which isn't something I usually bitch about, but it's not like it was 100 degrees outside, and the A/C was blasting on all cylinders inside.

Food was okay, the chicken and waffles were interesting, the Saul Meat pizza could have been better but I was hungry so no big complaints. We split a Double chocolate stout float for dessert, which was a deal at around 4 bucks (half price dessert happy hour).

Pints were around 4-5 bucks, which could be worse.

In a nutshell, Chicken waffles or not I should have insisted we go elsewhere. I'm not saying this place should be avoided like the plague, but if you want craft Beer you're surely better off elsewhere.

Saul Good: My 6th choice to grab a beer in Lexington.
Hightlights of last visit (March 1, 2009):

Leffe Blonde (on-tap)
Goose Island IPA (on-tap)
Guiness Stout (on-nitro tap)

Another pleasant beer-spot located in the new retail development near Fayette Mall. Although the restaurant/pub is located in a strip mall, the decor is artistic, very well designed, and a bit eccentric.

The beer selection consists of 16 taps: Hoegaarden, Widmer, Bass, Goose Island seasonal, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, Leffe, Red Hook Seasonal, Boddington's, Guiness,
Sam Adams Lager, and then remaining taps go to Amber Bock, Budweiser and the like. About 20 bottles are also available: Anchor Steam, Young's Double Chocolate Stout, New Castle, Blue Moon, Killians, and the rest go to more BudMillerCoors brands. All the beers are served with proper glassware and they are all served at 32 degrees.

The real fun with the pub is pairing one of the craft beers with the very unique, daring, and artistic food dishes. The Chicken and Waffles dinner goes very well with the Sam Adams Lager and the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. They also offer a Chocolate Bar where they have listed on their desert menu a Double Chocolate Stout Float. (Worth a try but it sounds a lot better than it actually was)

The decor is equally as artistic adorned with maculine dark wood, leather seating, a lot of unique glass working, beaded chandeliers, and rich earth tones. Quite family and children friendly. The attitude is very urban and intelligent despite it's suburban locale.

The staff is generally well versed in the beers they offer, but may not be able to dive into any deep conversations about them. Otherwise, the staff is quite attentive and more than eager to make the experience pleasant. You'll probably get a visit from the Owner, thanking you for your patronage.

The pub is definately worth seeking out for the food and for the Tuesday happy hour specials. And they have a decent little variety of beers for a pleasant pairing experience. But strictly as a beer destination, this is not the place. If shopping at the mall or near Nicholasville Road and New Circle Road, then it's worth stopping in for a pint and food. Also check out the nearby 'The Pub, Lexington' while in the area.

In the area? Drop me a beermail. I may be able to meet out for a pint or three.

Stopped in with a colleague while passing through town on business. Had problems locating this place with both my Garmin GPS and my iPhone. Had to use a good old map because of its location within a mall.

Surrounded by cookie cutter chains, it's good to see a local establishment rising from the sameness. Lots of professionals and groups of young ladies enjoying the small outdoor sidewalk patio upon entering.

We made our way to the bar. The taps...
Widmer Hefe
Goose Island IPA
Bud American Ale
Magic Hat #9
Bud, Bud Light, and Miller Light
Jefferson County Reserve Bourbon Barrel
Goose Island Summer

Nothing exceptional, but a good IPA and enough variety to work with.

I enjoyed a Hoegaarden and a GI IPA. The Hoegaarden tasted especially good indoors on this 80 degree spring evening.

We had some sort of schezwan beef and a thai pizza. Both were on thin flaky crust and I say they were excellent. The emphasis here is on the food which makes it a good place to take a mixed crowd and you can enjoy a decent beer.

Saul Good is one of the newer beer spots in Lexington, located in a mall area of town. The wait staff is always extremely friendly and most seem to be quite knowledgeable about the beers they sell. They have 16 taps - 2x Magic Hat, KY Ale, KY Bourbon Barrel, Goose Island Seasonal, Sam Adams Seasonal, Redhook Seasonal, Bass, Guinness, Boddingtons, Harp, Widmer, Hoegaarden, Bud Light, Miller Lite, ...and one other rotating tap.

All draught are half price on Fri-Sun, so it's definitely worth a stop for the money. Normal price for a pint beers are around $3.50 (Much better than the $6 pints across the street at The Pub and the Chase Tap room downtown). Beers are always fresh. The decor is eclectic, pretty neat.

The food is excellent. The salad wraps, chicken and waffles, desserts, fondue bar, all are excellent. Their beer cheese isn't really my favorite, but everything else is great.
