Slightly hazy dark orange with a white ring of foam. Aroma has some nice funky notes and sweet malts in the background. Taste starts sweet and fruity with some farmhouse funk but there is also a weird metallic flavor on the finish. Medium body and carbonation. Nice lambic funk but the metallic flavor is a bit off-putting.

Color: clear tea. Foam very short-lived, ecru.
The aroma is a clear acidity, fruity, apple cider vinegar.
Taste: delicately seasoned, reappears cider vinegar, a little fruit and floral notes. It is only slightly sour and the whole is very polite marked by the presence of sugars.
Saturation high, sparkling.

From the bottle, it pours a rusty amber with a small head. The light apple cider taste caresses the nose. The tartness assaults the tongue. A bit of sweet, but not overwhelming.

Amber colour, clear, lightly carbonated. Apple (cider) smell and taste. Lightly acidic, but mainly sweet, although not as sweet and one-dimensional as Mort Subite Oude Gueuze or St. Louis Gueuze. Not as delicious and complex as Lindemans' Cuvee Rene, but underrated here on BA. Very refreshing, would be excellent summer drink if cheaper. (5% ABV, not 4.)

375ml, bb date feb 2016. Poured into tulip glass.

L - rust coloured, clear, very small head - more a thin white lacing around the rim.

S - sweet n citrus sour - vinegar, cherries, apples and white wine. Faint hint of yeast.

T - sour flavours as to be expected, but they do not overpower. There is a hint of sweet malt and grassy hops with the stronger apple sour tastes.

M - Moderate carbonation and body, slightly alkaline texture. there is a crispness to the mouthfeel that makes this beer quite refreshing.

O - if you like the sourness of this beer style, this beer is one of the best. Not overpowering in sourness, the slight sweetness in the flavour makes the difference.

A: Pours an amber color with eggshell color head with decent lacing and retention. I would have expected to be hazier since it's a gueuze.

S: It's been a while since I had a gueuze. But this smell very acid with a good amount of funk but nothing much else. I expected green apples and stuff, but I get more wine vinegar and funk.

T: Definitely has a vinous character. Reminds me in a strange way of Flanders sour beers. This is decent though. You get a good amount of acidity, but not too much with a nice underlying sweetness. Maybe a bit too sweet for the style but this is very manageable. Some funk, but not as much as the smell.

M: Medium feel, surprisingly. And way not fluffy enough for the style.

O: This is a decent gueuze. It's nothing to write songs about, but it does the job quite well.

Drank this and the Cuvée René at the same time and compared.

A - Pale, with a touch of copper. Crystal clear. Some foam, but it does down fast.

S - Apple cider, some sort of sour/sugary apple candy, slight funk in the background.

T - Is like the smell dominated by the cider flavor, tart and pretty damn sweet.

M - High carbonation, although I swirled the glass so much it's beginning to disappear now. Medium body, puckering.

O - An OK gueuze, but for me it has two main faults: way too sweet and way too one dimensional. Would get the Cuvée instead of this every time.

A: Full of fine sediment. Deep golden body and not much of a head, which is white.

S: Sherry and cider.

T: Cider mostly, then some sherry. Has a sort of toasty, oaky quality, like that of tequila. The vinegar is not so strong. Sherbet in the aftertaste. Not overly sour or dry but quite acidic.

M: Soft but lively effervescence. Slightly sticky but pretty light.

O: Enjoyed it more that any other lambic I've had to date.

Light, cider-colored beer with almost no head. Slow bubbles; virtually transparent.

Champagne, cider, and funky aroma.

Flavor follows the nose: dry and sweet champagne/cider-like on the front, slightly tart, with a mildly cheese-tinged Brett funk on the back end. Just tart enough to make you pucker slightly.

Thin but syrupy/sugary feel; lingers and clings quite a bit, despite the relatively light feel.

This is a tasty and extremely light beer. While I don't like it as much as the fruit lambics (specifically the Kriek), it gives you a great, easy-going Brett experience. I'd definitely drink it again, although I'd prefer to lean toward the fruit lambics.

I always get excited to see actual beers in random places. In this case, I found this in a grocery store near the Jing'An Temple Metro stop in Shanghai China. Good find!

Poured from the 250mL bottle into a wine glass.

A: The beer is a clear malt vinegar brown with lots of carbonation showing through. The bead was off white to light tan and very fizzy, building only to about a finger and then dissolving soda-like into just a small patch on the top of the beer.

S: Hello my old funky friend. It's been a while since I've had a sour and the smell comes back to you instantly. Some sour fruits like unripe apples and berries along with a hint of wood and farm field. Lightly acidic, the twang hits like a teaspoon of vinegar but sweeter. Can't wait.

T: More fruits up front and a nice sour midpalate. This is much sweeter than I expected with a bit of sour sugar in the middle. A light bitterness and a drying sensation in the back. Swallowed quickly, you are left with a bit of wood and hay, but when held in there the sourness really takes over - like eating an unripe apple or pear, but in a good way. Grapes somewhere in there, like a white wine kind of note. Refreshing.

F: Has the feel of a good cider throughout, just prickly enough to give a refreshing seltzery spritz, but then dry in the back.

Overall, a pretty good find here. Doesn't have the strong sour characters of some of the Belgians that I've had, but then again that's ok - a subdued and refreshing find. Nothing but good things to say.

Coming in a slim 250ml brown bottle, bottled date 26/09/2012, served lightly chilled in a long-stemmed wine glass.

A: pours a bright, dark amber colour, coming with very mild carbonation, random chunks of yeast sediments, and a thin off-white head to last.
S: caramely malts abound with funky and sour-apple-ly notes, underlined by a good concentration of (candy) sugar on the nose. A very good swirl gives rise to more complex aroma which lends more depth to the otherwise sour-sweet soup, such as damp old woodiness, bitter-sweet lemons, and astringent, tart stinky/earthy smell typical of the style.
T: thin bodied, loose on the carbonation, the semi-sour but also bitter-sweet cider-ish and semi-lemony flavour is outweighed by the immediately prevailing flow of sweet candy-maltiness, with bits and bobs of sugar scattered here and there, coming quite as an annoyance to the palate in that the supposed deep tartness and refreshing feel from the acidity are conspicuous by their absence… The finish sees a low level of tannic feel coating my teeth and tongue, but again the mouthfeel is not tart enough to make it refreshing; rather, it goes slightly watery as the finish is very ill-“defined” (if you know what I mean…).
M&D: loose on the carbonation on the verge of being flat, medium bodied but really it feels like the added candy sugar dominates the balance, this is not a good example of blended lambic in my honest opinion, having tried myself a dozen or so much better oude geuze where no added sugar is applied. In this case, it feels like the sugary elements have “split” the beer down the middle: clear-cut sweetness vis-à-vis weak funky fruitiness. Personally, I would never want to revisit this beer, unless the brewery reverted to the oude geuze style by abandoning the overpowering candy sugar which really has killed off many more pleasant flavours one would expect from a glass of classic tart funky malt juice…

A nice Gueuze beer. 5% ABV
Not that special I think.
What I like is the taste and the mouthfeel. An average sourness and a light sweetness.
It felt light and thin with a lively carbonation.
What I liked less was the appearance. It is not that special. A minimal white head.

I nearly fell over when I saw this sitting on the shelf at my local bottle shop. Lambic in Africa??? The world must be about to end!!!

Appearance: Lindeman’s Gueuze pours an amber colour (WTF), with a backlight revealing a number of small to medium sized particles in suspension. A rough pour yields a large white head that fizzes away pretty quickly and doesn’t leave much in the way of lacing.

Smell: Hmmm, this certainly doesn’t smell like any geuze that I have ever had, in fact it seems more like a pale ale with a little lambic added. Notes include: Sweet apple juice, pale grain, skunk, a little tart apple peal and a very light musty character.

Taste: As with the nose, the flavour leaves a hell of a lot to be desired! Sweet apple juice dominates, with some grainy malt, a little mustiness and a touch of old wood also present. There is only a touch of tartness and the finish is a little watery.

Mouthfeel: Surprisingly (after the dreadful nose and flavour), the mouthfeel is actually pretty damn good. The body is light or just over and the carbonation is of a medium level and fantastically smooth.

Overall: I really have no idea what Lindeman’s is trying to do with this beer, but it is the sorriest excuse for a lambic that I have ever encountered! I will certainly never ever buy it again!

Poured from 250ml bottle into HF Wine Glass. Im not sure of the date, but I purchased at Flair Beverages in NYC - where everything is pretty old (i bought a 6er of saranac black forest and it was so old and skunked i had to pour it down the drain).

Pours a clear brown/syrup color; little amount of released carbonation but bubbles remain around edge. Cork and metallic aromas mixed with obvious sour characteristic, funk, tart, etc...but slightly malty. The taste is way too sweet for the style, but it does have some nice tart and sour quality, but I do taste some cork. Nice malty, woody base; just too sweet. Its super easy to drink.
Its not bad, but not amazing. It seems to be a good entry to the style but not anywhere near the grand daddy of cantillon.

250ml bottle served in a chalice.

A: Pours an orange clear color forming a small white to yellow head. Small retention and only very few lacings left. Some particles can be seen floating around. A nice looking beer

S: Very fruity as expected. Quite sweet and bready too. Sweet grains. Some tartiness can be felt in the nose. No hops

T: Sweet upfront. Sweet grains and fruits. Apples, mainly. A metallic and rusty taste. A mild acid taste, in overall. No hoppy bitterness. Intense lambic yeasts

M: Light body. Intense fizzy carbonation. Sour aftertaste

O: Good drinkability. A very easy Gueuze. Much more sweet and less tarty than the classic Gueuzes but still a pleasant Belgian beer

This is my third visit to this beer, the most recent only being a few months ago. I was impressed, then, by this inexpensive import's ease of drinking and nuances of flavor. That bottle was imported by myself from Belgium, while this latest was found sitting on the shelves of a Chicago liquor store. My conclusions are rather reversed on this tasting, and I found the beer not as tart, nuanced, or flavorful as the fresh import from Belgium. I would suggest saving your money and purchasing the Cuvee Rene instead of this for a more interesting gueuze experience.

Pours a 1cm head of slightly off-white bubbles, small in size, forming a smooth, shiny, nearly cheese-like frothy head. Retention is poor, less than a minute elapsing between the head's rise and fall to a thin ring around the perimeter of the body. Moderate lacing is left in its wake, some significant stretches and splotches. Body is a fairly dark orange-gold color, almost mistakable for brown. Highlights are yellow-orange, and when the beer is held up to a light, I observe a lighter, paler orange-gold.

Aroma of tempered white sugar sweetness, modest barnyard scent, very mild lemon citrus, very light acidity, and very gentle vinegar. Slightly iced tea-like. Aroma could be more expressive, as another reviewer said.

In general, this gueuze is too sweet and not complex enough in its tartness for my taste. It is very easy to drink, the sweetness and oak character being inviting, but overall I would likely pass on this again, in favor of Cuvee Rene. Opens with malt sweetness and apple cider flavor that's sustained throughout the entire session. Early front palate picks up very slight lemon tartness alongside the sweetness. Mid-palate has a larger amount of flavor influences, including continued light lemon citrus, a bit of oak, and apple cider. Back of palate is surprisingly sweet, with a noticeable, but less intense tartness. Aftertaste of lingering tartness and faint vinegary acidity atop tempering sweetness.
Adding the sediment increases the tartness and oak character in the flavor.

Lindemans standard gueuze is an enjoyable, if not sweeter than average, version of the style. None of the aspects of this gueuze are going to challenge any regular gueze drinker's palate, but its restraint and balance can be refreshing and agreeable. Although it's not easily obtainable in the US (I'd be happy to give up their pomme lambic for a regular selection of this), this would probably be an excellent introduction for those looking to wade into the sour pool. I imagine that near Vlezenbeek, where this must be readily available, aside from the faro, this must be the casual drink for those wanting something while they socialize, read, or watch outdoors.

Pours a 2cm head of slightly off-white bubbles, small in size, forming a smooth, shiny, nearly cheese-like frothy head. Retention is fairly good, several minutes elapsing between the head's rise and fall to a thin cap atop the body. Moderate lacing is left in its wake, some significant stretches and splotches. Body is a fairly dark orange-gold color, almost mistakable for brown. Highlights are yellow-orange, and when the beer is held up to a light, I observe a lighter, paler orange-gold.
Adding the sediment to the beer causes the color to change to a darker brown-orange.

Aroma of tempered white sugar sweetness, mild lemon citrus, light acidity, and gentle vinegar. There's also a slight barnyard scent amidst some clover blossoms if I inhale deeply. Aroma could be more expressive, as another reviewer said, I would describe this as "delicate and balanced."
Adding sediment increases the barnyard and clover blossom aroma somewhat, but the real change is that the sweetness seems to be greater and thus the scent loses some balance.

Opens with malt sweetness and apple cider flavor that's sustained throughout the entire session. Early front palate picks up slight lemon tartness alongside the sweetness. Mid-palate has a larger amount of flavor influences, including continued light lemon citrus, gentle vinegar, apple cider, and a bit of clover flower and cut grass. Aftertaste of lingering tartness and faint vinegary acidity atop tempering sweetness.
Adding the sediment increases the tartness in the flavor and adds a slightly cumin-like herbal component.

Beer is medium to medium-light bodied, with minimal to no wateriness around the edges. Carbonation is moderate, so this foams slightly on the palate, leading to a fairly smooth mouthfeel. Closes out dry, slightly astringent, and with only the slightest hit of sweetness around the edges of the mouth.

The beer is amber/orange in color with a short lived white head. Not a very good nose to this. Quite a bit of grass and maybe even some butter. There’s some light lemon notes in the background. The flavor is a bit better. It’s got a decent tartness to it, but it’s somewhat vinegary. A little apple and grass in there, too. Medium bodied with somewhat low carbonation. This one really was a let down; Cuvee Rene is much better.

Bottle to Lindemans Kriek 25cl flute

Enjoyed at Palais des Bières while visiting Geneva, Switzerland.

A: Light to medium copper color. 3+ (light tan) fingernail head on medium pour. Holy head!

S: White pepper, corn chowder, attic, and dry must. Not terribly pleasing at first, but as it warms it seems to be more inviting.

T: Quick sweetness (raisins) up-front that dissappears instantly. I get cheddar cheese and unpleasant/nasty funk from the middle to back end of finish. Not nice.

M: Medium body with loads of carbonation.

O: Okay beer, but nothing special here. Off taste for the style and just plain (not too much going on). I would not seek this out again as there are plenty of other gueuzes that I enjoy more.

Best before date was november 2010 but gueuzes are known to age quite well and nothing was really off, so it should be good for reviewing

A- Transparent dark copper colour. Half finger white head that disappears as quickly as it formed, no lacing at all on the glass. Looks quite lifeless

S- Slightly acidic aroma, actually quite delicate and much more in balance than i would have expected. Some fruity (grapes, apricot) undernotes bring more life. Overall a very delicate but still pleasant aroma

T- As the aroma suggested, time has definiltely made this beer much smoother than it originally was. Sugar has now assumed a preminent role and the beer feels overall very sweet (i would almost say this is a flanders red ale), with fruity notes of plum and apricot among a delicate sourness

M- Light body and carbonation. Very smooth, almost oily. just a hint of delicate crispness on the tongue. Not a big mouthfeel for sure, but it fits very well with the beer's delicate taste

O- Something in the middle between a gueuze and a flanders red ale, age has probably a role in this. Very drinkable and quite refreshing, but not as complex as other spontaneous fermentation beers i have tried

The brew is clear orange, perky small bubbles, a white fizzy head, no lacing, little curtains.

Fruity sweet and sour smell, slightly apple vinegar, stable and musky earthy nuances.

Starting fructose sweet, white vinegar, sour creame, cheese, wet horse blanket.

High carbonation, a dry sour finish, refreshing.

An easily accessible geuze, a beginners choice - but not bad as a refreshment.

This 25 cl bottle revealed a dark amber colored brew with a wispy head of foam. The aroma is a mixture of fruity sourness and some sugary notes. The flavor is sour and tart, although tartness more than sourness defines the profile. The fruitiness borders on sugary and is a deficit in this brew. It is not as cracklingly crisp as some other gueuze I have had, but it still snaps on the way, a little like champagne.

Pours a gold/copper colour, with a one finger head. Head look slovely but recedes quickly.

Aromas of cheese, rubber tyre.(!)

Taste is sour, sherbet, marmalade, dried apricot.

Mouthfeel is crisp.

Overall a very pleasant drop. Sourness keeps your palate honest but does not overpower. Down a bit on drinkability due to hign tap price @ Taphouse.

pours a muddy bronze with a small not very firm head ...

the smell is fresh, like a meadow after a spring rain, some hints of hops ...

taste is fruity (boskoop apple, starfruit), very soury, with an astringent bitter attack in the end ....

even though I love bitter brews (the old Pilsner Urquell or Jever) paired with sourness is too much for my taste ....

Pours from it's 12.7 ouncer into a Stella Artois glass. Lots and lots of nutritional floaters in there. It's a bronzed orange tone with only a one finger head. A nice amount of carbonation but not over the top for it's style.

Nose is a light sweet bready maltiness with a tad bit of refreshing sourness. Not really anything to speak of in terms of funkiness but perhaps a bit of a leathery/wet woodiness.

Taste does'nt really remind me much of a Gueuze but more of a really sweet Flanders. It is really fruity(Pineapples, strawberries, and apples). Fair bit of sourness although it wears off pretty quickly. Sweet and bready maltiness. This is low/medium bodied. Definetly complex and flavorful for it's abv , however nothing to rave about.

Glad to try this beer although I did'nt find it to be quite a traditional tasting Gueuze. More of a hybrid between a Flanders ale, a Gueuze and a sweet Belgian amber ale.
