Very Good
KriekKriek
Notes: Also known as Kriek Foudroyante

We've already told you that our family never does anything the way other people do. Kriek Lindemans is a good example of that. In order to obtain a beer like no other, we have been adding whole sour cherries to our lambic for generations. Our meeting with American importer Charles Finkel in the 1970s revolutionized the fruit beer segment. Charles convinced us to export our old kriek to the United States by boat. What we had not thought of is that the movement of the waves would reactivate the fermentation process and cause the corks to pop during the trip. It was like something out of The Adventures of Tintin. To prevent that from happening, we therefore developed an alternative production method for our kriek. We use fresh, not from concentrate, unsweetened cherry filtrate which we blend with lambic that is at least one year old before fermenting & macerating for up to 3 days and pasteurizing the whole batch. So the corks don't pop. Due to the use of filtrate and pasteurization, this kriek is sweeter and fruitier than Old Kriek Cuvée René, which undergoes a second fermentation process in the bottle. Thanks to its innovative flavour, it was a resounding success both here in Belgium as well as around the world. Nowadays, it is undoubtedly the reference kriek for consumers.

A 250ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2019. ABV is stated as 3.5%. Acquired a little while back from a webshop. A cherry-flavoured lambic beer; the label states that this is made with a base of 1-year old lambic and contains 20% real cherry juice in addition to sugar and sweetener(?).

A: Poured into a tulip. A deep cherry-red colour with good clarity, some slight floating sediment and moderate carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy pink foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Nice lacing.

S: Aroma of intense cherry with hints of fruity sweetness, mild sourness, earthiness and just a twinge of funk. Dominated by the cherry - nice.

T: Tastes of supremely juicy cherry with notes of fruity tartness, citric acid, sugary sweetness and mild earthiness. Uncomplicated, like liquid candy. No bitterness to speak of.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and decent body for the strength. Mildly astringent. Aftertaste of tart cherry, sweetness and a lingering acidity.

O: Very drinkable. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are all sharp cherry and sweetener. Body is alright. I'm well aware that this is not an authentic lambic and am not evaluating it against that standard. For what it is, however, I find it deliciously refreshing. Mainly because I have a soft spot for cherry. Worth sampling.

Found a good deal on this just 9.99 for a 750ml tax included! Had it before but no review for some reason.

A - Good looking beer very red and dark like cherry juice. Head has a nice pink hue with good carbonation a 1/2 inch that takes a while to dissipate.
S - Not as tart as I remember quite sweet like fresh dark cherry juice.
T - Very sweet and crisp yet not as sugary as juice quite clean as others said somewhat of a palate cleanser. Still one of the better cherry beers I had in a while.
M - If you like light fruity somewhat girly beers this one will win you over every time. Each sip brings sour tart and sweet berries with a clean beer finish.

Overall a very tasty lambic beer that's just as good as I remember from years past. If you find a bomber for 10 bucks buy it without regret!

12oz to snifter

Pours a dark ruby red with a half finger of pink foam. Chunks of yeast speckle the bottom of the glass, high carbonation stemming from the middle. Head has receded pretty quickly, lacing isn't too bad

Smells upfront cherry with a sweet malt base. Smells syrupy and almost artificial, sort of like cheap cough medicine. Not really any tartness, this aroma is pretty one dimensional

Taste is on the nose as expected, big upfront cherry rush followed by a sweet malty after taste. Cherries are pretty rich and come across vibrantly

Feel as I thought is a bit thick and syrupy. Extremely mild tartness, and no alcohol, which probably wasn't hard at 4%

Overall this is sort of like drinking a jolly rancher soda. Big burst of taste, except that's pretty much all there is to this. Not terrible, but I wish it had a lot less sweet and a lot more sour

Out of a 750ml corked and capped bottle. Pours a dark red/purple color with a nice tight whipped pink head that left plenty of lacing on the glass. The aroma is sweet and tart. Big Hi-C fruit punch aroma with a tart unrippened cherry, some peppery spice as well. The taste is of fruit punch and red grape juice with an overlying cherry syrup sweetness. Some metallic notes as well. Similar to the framboise but the cherries don't bring in too much of a tart flavor like the raspberries do. The feel is moderate with soft carbonation, very sweet but the tart bite offsets the sweetness to avoid being cloying. Very tasty brew, very sweet, one glass is enough for me.

Consumed 3/11/2009. Thanks to newtonty for sharing.

Pours a slightly cloudy, pinkish/red with a white frothy head with minimal lacing. Decent head retention.

You could open this beer, pour it into a cab glass and use it to freshen the air in your kitchen! This nose on this HUGE. If you like cherry lifesavers, this is the same thing exact thing.

Taste is very much like the nose, but add tart and slight bready yeasts to the mix.

Very nice, but very sweet. Light bodied, full flavored and highly carbonated.

750ml capped and corked green bottle from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Pours a somewhat hazy ruby-red/burgundy with a good inch of pink head that leaves fairly impressive lacing on the side of the glass as it slowly dissipates. Smells strongly of cherries with hints of a funkiness which is no doubt due to the spontaneous fermentation. Tastes strongly of cherries too with a sweet-and-sour quality from the funky twang. Hints of malt toward the finish. Slightly on the dry side. Plenty of carbonation helps make this a pretty refreshing beer despite its flavor complexity and fairly full mouthfeel. A solid beer for sure and my favorite lambic I've had thus far. Really hitting the spot tonight.

Saw this at the beer store and had to try it out.

apperance- when poured is deep rich cherry red color with little head.

smell- overwhelming smell of black cherries

taste- to me this tastes more like a champagne drink flavored with cherries than a beer. very light and refreshing.

mouthfeel- goes down easy and with no after taste.

drinkability- a very light refreshing drink that I would suggest be complimented by a dessert. certainly nothing that should stand alone, however it should be used in supporting role with some type of food. i will certainly try this and other varites again and try to pair it with a corresponding menu item.
