Is it a sparkling wine or a beer? That is the question amateurs of exceptional products ask when they discover our Cassis for the first time. Cassis Lindemans is a fruity beer made from a lambic base which, thanks to its shades of dark purple and its aromas, is spontaneously reminiscent of wine. The taste of Cassis Lindemans on the palate is inimitable: intense and sparkling with a sour-sweet finish.

This is a dull, plum-colored beer with a thin, pink halo of bubbles. Smells like grape kool-aid with smuckers in it. Acidity comes through in the nose. I taste and get light, rosey florals upfront. Amazing that I can taste that at all considering the hefty grape-juice tasting base. Berry is lively. Yeasty lambic tartness holds this down and acidity thins it down but the brew is still cloying. One of the better lambics from Lindeman's. Mouthfeel is mid-wieght, fuzzy and acidic.

750ml green bottle. Stamped on label is 'LBB23V CA'.
Berry red colored body. Fizzy off white head which disappears.
Aroma of berry fruit and red wine.
Taste is tart and the main flavor is black currant fruit. Slightly acidic. Slightly sweet as well.
Medium mouth feel, with some stickiness. Okay carbonation.
Correct flavor for the fruit. Easy to get into, not overly challenging.

330ml bottle into a lindemans flute. No freshness dating.

Looks good, deep dark burgundy body with a pink tinged head. Leaves layers of lacing.

Aroma of wine and grapes.

On tasting, sweet and tart. Some red wine notes. Good black currant taste, a berry I particularly like. Some faint wood notes from the oak aging.

Mouth full, finish sweet tart berry.

Overall, one of the better of Lindemans fruit lambic. Then again, I partial to the fruit added here.

250 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 3.5%. Dark red colour, moderate pink head. Intense aroma of blackcurrant juice. Intensely sweet and sour flavour, with loads of sweetened blackcurrant juice. A beer to be had with a fruit dessert, perhaps. You really have to be partial to blackcurrants to drink more than one bottle. I know some people like to mix this in a porter. I haven’t tried that, but it might work.

Poured from a foil-topped bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Cloudy grape-juice colored pour. 1.5 fingers of pink-tinged head... great lacing.

S: Fruity and vinous. Grape, raisin, plum, and yeast.

T.F: Sweet/tart and fruity. Loads of grape and plum. Raisin... yeast... spice. Wine and oak. Well carbonated/sparkling. Sweet more than tart. Fruit finish.

O: A delicious sweet/tart and fruity/vinous brew. Really liked this and Lindemans rarely misses.

this bottle, I am told, is nearly two years old. poured into a Lindemans flute

pours clear wine-red body with billowing fluffy foam magenta-pink head that has very high retention rate and leaves only the occasional splotch of lacing, but honestly mostly stayed up billowing as I was constantly refilling the relatively small glass!

aroma is syrup sweet and sour/tart dark berry (black currant, of course), fresh grass, aged woodiness, and grape funk

taste follows, mostly being taken over by funky sweet and sour black currant. faint fresh grass hop in the wings.

medium-light carbonation, medium body - very soda-like, syrup forward. feels natural though, unlike syrup-sodas. slightly dry hoppy finish, but it's faint. nothing sticks around for long.

overall:
I keep saying soda, but this would be more accurately described as what soda attempts to mimic, but misses by a mile because of, well, you know, such mass production or some other excuse for using cheap as hell ingredients and corner cutting methods to churn out a buck. as "big" as Lindemans is, or isn't, this comes off as masterful craftmanship by comparison. "the best alcoholic grape juice soda you'll ever sip" is underselling it, but I wouldn't question anyone for suggesting it...

A departure from my typical preferences for traditional lambic, but i’m running out of new ones to try. Luckily this one from Lindemans wasn’t cloyingly sweet.

Look:
Dark reddish to purplish tone, opaque with a couple fingers of pastel purple pink foam that has lasting surface coverage. When backlit, it’s bright crimson and clear, with visible carb trails. Ample sticky lacing all around the glass. Sediment left in the bottle. 4

Smell:
Pleasant smell, tart and vinous black currants, leafy green, musty wet wood, fairly natural and thankfully not artificial. 4.25

Taste:
Fruity and vinous black currant, tart and sweet, a bit sugary on the lips. Tiny bit of musty funk that seems more cork-related. Fruit forward, thankfully not artificial or medicinal. 3.75

Feel:
Light bodied, fairly light on carbonation, easy drinking. 3.5

Overall:
Surprisingly not bad. I was expecting a sweet sugar bomb, but the sweetener is balanced somewhat by the natural tartness of the black currants. Probably still not my first choice, but worth a try if you like a cassis lambic. 3.75

Had their Framboise a little earlier - this is a dark red beer - black-looking with no light behind it - with a dark pink foam head a few fingers tall - more subtle than their Framboise, this is a deeper, less sweet, less bright, less tangy lambic - has wine-like notes, a moderate sweetness, mild tartness, and a bit of woody tannin toward the finish...

25cl bottle. Dark red colour with a foaming, pink head that leaves arcs of lacing. Ribena nose. Intense, but rounded, blackcurrant flavour with a soft & fruity aftertaste. Semi-sweet, light bitterness and a sour tang. Smooth with a long, dry finish. I'm not a fan of fruit beers normally but this one hits the spot. Lovely balance, funky but fresh, not too saccharin. Would go down very nicely as an aperitif or a dessert beer.
