750 ml bottle:

Pours hazy gold with a fluffy head that slowly descends to a thin cover.

The smell is of candy sugar, tartness, grain, some vinuous fruitiness.

The taste is of sweettart candy - nicely balanced. Some mustiness and vinuous fruitiness. Long, very dry finish. Simple, but tasty.

The body is light to medium, smooth with a nice texture. Very drying.

This is a tasty, drinkable classic/traditional gueuze that is tart/sour but with a nice rounding sweetness.

750mL bottle into a tulip
Bottled on: 02 MAA 2012

A: Pours a hazy golden yellow with a huge 4 plus fingers width of slightly off white head. Leaves a few faint patches of lacing.

S: Tart fruits and sweet fruits. White grape and apple. A little bit of funk and some spice. Banana. Faint vinegar. Very nice.

T: Lots of tart sourness, along with apple cider vinegar. Lingering belgian yeast banana on the finish. Lots of lactic acidity. Some peppery spice. Some musty funk. Again, very nice.

M/D: Crisp mouthfeel, lots of carbonation, fuller side of medium bodied. Drinkability is good. Nice mouthfeel here.

O: Overall, a very nice beer. And an affordable gueuze gets bonus points in my book. Id definitely buy this one again. Recommend.

Bottled on 08 Nov 2011, poured into a flute

A - Golden yellow. Pilsner-like but with more of a bright neon glow. Fluffy white head starts at 3 fingers, then reduces down to a lasting half finger with good uneven lacing. There is lots of carbonation.

S - I am first hit by a funk which brings to mind fireworks/gun powder, or something industrial (machines running, oil, burning rubber). Strangely, it's not at all bad! Soon hints of very sour fruit come into the mix.

T - I first notice the prickly, fluffy mouthfeel as the initial taste is subtle. On the back end is sour green apple candy and a spicy peppery dryness. As I continue to smell and taste, the industrial quality transforms into some earthy vegetables and black peppercorns.

O - My first gueze! I am a bit surprised that I found the sourness to be relatively subdued, but it really enhances the whole experience. This stuff is beyond complex - I will definitely be exploring the style further, and will pick up more of this one for sure!

got this one in a trade with freud. thanks fred!

375ml corked and capped bottle topped with bronze foil. bottled dec 2009. sampled feb 4/2011.

pours a beautiful deep orangey gold, crystal clear and lighter at the start of the pour, darkening and growing hazy toward the end of the bottle. a big bright white head springs up and falls fairly quickly to a thin layer atop the beer. a bit of spotty lace is left in its wake.

aroma is great. cherry, lemon, tangerine, leather and horse blanket. malt vinegar. caramel and toffee. it doesn't really smell sweet, but i feel like it has all that character - caramel, toffee, candy, complex fruity character. light alcohol. white bread and cracker. bit of grain. it has such a bright character too. fantastic.

taste is good. okay, there is a little sweetness here, but not much. orange, tangerine, and lemon. faint caramel. toffee. bit of malt and cider vinegar. horse blanket and leather. bit of spice. perhaps some cherry pit and almond.

mouthfeel is good. fairly light body with a nice dry finish. just over medium carbonation level.

drinkability is great. nice balance. restrained but complex sourness. good depth. a tasty sour.
