12oz bottle that says that it was bottled 23 Nov 2012? I'm guessing they meant this to be the best by date? At any rate, I'm glad they attempted to date this one.

Poured a hazy orange-yellow color with one finger of off-white head. Retention is OK, but the lacing eventually falls back into the beer.

The aroma boast hints of rice vinegar, sour cherries, white grape juice, and sake.

Taste: Bubbly and carbonated up front. A pleasant sourness coats the palate immediately after. I get a bit of vinegar like taste near the middle. Sour flavor is concentrated more on the roof of the mouth. It actually finishes pretty smooth considering.

Medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation.

A nice beer overall.

Morey's Bottom Line: I've had a couple of other Sours, but truth be told, this is my first Gueuze. It's definitely unique, and I'd like to try other within this style. This was recommended as a good starting point, and I agree.

A - It is smooth and cloudy looking in my beer glass. There is small signs of carbonation (bubbles are hard to see unless there aren't many). It has a white head on a foggy orange body that receeds quickly with no retention.

S - It has an applelish type smell and again with the Lambics, it seems I can pick up that cork smell in the beer along with some kind of citrus.

T - I was expecing that apple taste from the apple smell. It has an off-taste to it somewhat difficult to describe... seems as if it's an apple and an orange peel. Leaves someone a strong "earthy" taste in your mouth, but with lots of salivating.

M - Feels like a medium weight sitting on your tongue. Starts off kind of bland and builds up to a sharp tart.

D - I was caught off guard by the smell and appearance. Out of the Lambic family, I'd personally rank this one the lowest out of the other's I've tried. This is not a beer you would bring to a party and slam. This is more of the sipping kind you would bring out for a special occasion.

Not as good as Hanssen Gueuze, as there was some off flavors, but it was still a great introduction to gueuze!

Pours pale orange with a slight haziness. Large foamy head, champagne like that dissipates into a thin head. Lots of lacing. Smells of sour fruits, effervescence. Taste follows with an interesting blend of sour fruits, basically tastes a bit like rotting citrus without the stench of rot :). I haven't had a gueuze yet, but I assume this is what they are supposed to taste like. Gives an ancient type of feel, yet is elegant as well.

12oz capped and corked bottle (first beer to use a corkscrew on!) poured into my Duvel tulip. Label says bottled July 2010.

Appearance: Hazy golden color, pours with a huge white head that dissipates at a moderate pace and leaves no lacing.

Smell: Very tart, some lemon in there as well as sour apple

Taste: A tart as the smell would suggest, kinda fruity, lemon, sour apple, a little chalky, most of these flavors are strange to me and hard to describe. Some of it resembles the Ommegang beers I've had that were brewed with brett, but not on this level.

Mouthfeel: Mediumish body, high carbonation, encourages you to drink small amounts slowly.

Overall: Pretty good, but incredibly strange and foreign to me. I will try more sours, as they are interesting, but I will take my time with them. I will probably eventually revisit this when I get more experience with sours.

375mL (bottled 10/6/2011) into a tulip. Pours a clear coppery golden color w/ a big fluffy white head, vigorous carbonation.

Aroma is funky and vaguely sour, almost saison-like. Earthy, spicy, a little musty.

Taste is sharply acidic up front, lemony with an underlying sweetness, and then more sour on the finish.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied w/ a semi-dry finish. A little prickly from the carbonation.

Overall a pretty solid version of the style and certainly a good introduction, but better ones are readily available.
