L: BB19PGC bottling code

Poured into a smal snifter. First couple pours were crystal clear, yellow gold body and nice fizzy thin layer of white head. Smell is green appley, green grapes, lemon. Taste is lots of zesty lemon funk, earthiness, green grapes, green apple. Last few pours with more spent yeast got more opaque and deeper in flavor. More funk, lots of acidity but still extremely balanced. Nice fizzy and medium thin mouthfeel with just a slight dry finish. So glad to have finally tasted this brew.

Look- a little hazy- champagne like bubbles that quickly subsided. Could be mistaken for a cider.

Smell- Fruity and earthy tones, very sharp. No malt or hop smells- slight tinge of wood, and faint waft of possibly leather

Taste- Very unique flavor, unlike anything I have ever had. First notes is a champagne like sweetness, with a tart, lemony bite. Quite bubbly; no malt or hop flavor. After taste has a slight warmth. Taste of green apple prevalent.

Feel- Very bubbly and tart. Warmth on the end of the sip.

Overall- My first gueuze, great experience. Very funky and acidic beer that stimulates and heightens the senses.

L: Poured from a bottle to a snifter glass. Had a bright copper color and a hazy consistency. There was a small amount of foamy head that quickly dissipated. Not much lacing.

S: A very fruity, sour aroma of apples, yeast, and a funky quality.

T: Tasted of a hint of Belgian yeast, a whole lot of the funky / musty quality, a good shot of apples, a hint of pears, an earthy quality, and a citrus element (lemon, in particular). A big tart / sourness here, one that's balanced by the musty / earthiness. Vibrant, sweet, and fruity.

F: A highly carbonated beer with a lively finish. Light- to medium-bodied.

O: An incredibly solid and likable gueuze. Very easy to drink and well made.

March 15th, 2015 - The regular fruity Lindeman's are unbridled, undisciplined and shamefully sweet. But the family name shouldn't spoil the personality, so I wanted to give the Lindeman's Cuvee Rene a chance to be something better than the fizzy fruity fracases one normally finds on liquor store shelves. Hazy but almost a foxy brown, the head barely supports itself before toppling into the glass of sweet and sour smelling brew. With a slight vinegar twang and a sharp acidity, it has a high note like apple cider vinegar. The floaty, fluffy carbonation is around for when I take my sip, softening the sourness. Notably, the sweetness has been checked, apparently restraining Lindeman's bad habits from other beers and letting a more traditional lambic geuze note come through.

375ml bottle from Brewdog Doghouse, Glasgow:
Quite a fresh & crisp beer from the start, it was lively with some nice tart & funky flavours kicking things off alongside plenty of citrus & a few subtle spices. Further on there was some lighter fruits with apples, grapes & pears all featuring at points before some acidity seen things out. It was a balanced & easy-going offering that I enjoyed & would definitely have again.

Brouwerij Lindemans "Lindemans Gueuze Cuvée René"
750 ml green glass bottle, corked and capped; without freshness dating but labeled "Bottled: L BA21PGC"
$9.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Look: Hazy deep gold, almost amber colored body beneath a finger thick head of bright white that holds surprisingly well but leaves little in the way of lacing.

Smell: Mustiness, wet straw, leather, wet wood/oak, dried apricot, and grainy malt.

Taste: Tart but not puckeringly sour as some Gueuze can be. It's fruity (apple, apricot, lemon), mineralish, earthy, and musty/funky/moldy - reminiscent in some ways to the blue veins of mold within a wheel of English Stilton - and lightly leafy. It's only mildly bitter, less than 20 IBUs, but dry in the finish with a mild, short lingering acidity and earthiness/mustiness/woodiness.

Feel: Light-medium in body and gently effervescent and delicately crisp, influenced as much by its acidity as its carbonation.

Overall: If it can be said that an ale brewed from wild yeast is highly refined, then this is one of the finest example to be had. It offers a great deal of character while remaining perfectly balanced in flavors, bitterness, acidity, and mouthfeel. Compellingly drinkable. A classic.

Sour, check. Pours clear and taste makes you squint. No head to speak of. After taste reminds me of green olives. Good for a sour or lambic beer. I'm good with it.

Smell: Barnyard funk, green apple, lemon, some white grape, maybe a hint of graininess.

Taste: Same as above.

Feel: Medium-light body, medium carbonation. Mild-medium sourness and acidity, a bit dry.
