Pours a relatively clean muddy brown color, small cap of tan head, little retention. Scent is mostly a blend of mildly sweet carmel, roasted nuts and grassy hops. Taste follows scent with some light yeasty fruityness - fairly straight forward but to style. Thin body, lightly carbonated - only place where the beer loses me. A straight forward brown undone slightly by the thin body.

First had: on tap at McKenzie Brew House, Malvern, PA

Hmm. My quest for a brown ale that I like continues.

Poured a clear brown with reddish highlights with a thin white head that receded to a spotty layer. Sweet malts and dark sugars in the nose. Toasted malts in the taste, sugar, a bit medicinal, little to no hops detectable. Medium bodied, moderately thin and a little acrid. I did not find this very drinkable.

On tap as English Brown Ale. Pours a dark reddish brown color with very little head. Lots of malt, messy and unitegrated with burnt caramel and some sweeter toffee notes with toasted biscuit behind. The taste is much of the same, a bit sugary in flavor and muddles the feel with a burnt flavor amongst the malts. Light body, over carbonated, prickly finish.

Served in a pint glass

From notes.

A: Brown. 0.75 (off-white) fingernail head.

S: Burnt brown sugar, charred dark malt, and candied walnuts. Unwelcoming aroma and a bad way to start a review.

T: Dried out fig, roasted malt, brown sugar, caramel, and hint of semi-sweet chocolate (not sure this should be here, but whatever...it actually salvages the beer for me at this point).

M: Medium body with low/moderate carbonation. Needs to be a bit more full-bodied to drink like a proper English Brown Ale.

O: Taste slightly better than it smells, but this beer is missing quite a bit of flavor. Muddled together mix of unpleasantness here.

Had this on tap at McKenzie Brew House in Glen Mills, PA.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown with a one-finger tan head. Nothing too fancy looking, but good for the style.

Smell: Smells of toasty sugars/caramels, malts.

Taste: Tastes pretty similar to the smell, except that the toasted sugars are more pronounced. Pretty yummy.

Mouthfeel: Very light with light carbonation as well. Just average.

Overall: Would try this again, it's a pretty good brown ale.

A - Clear ruby, a thin white head that recedes to nothing very quickly and with no lacing.

S - Touch of roasted malt, with a lot of caramel sweetness behind it.

T - Dominated by the sweet caramel malts with some grainiess, and finishes with an off-putting heavy astringency.

M - Light body, lighter than it should be, and higher carbonation than it should have. Astringent finish that is a touch 'solventy'.

D - I wouldn't get it again. Seems like they missed the mark on the style, and the finish was completely off-putting.
