Fun stop. If these walls could talk! Beer selection is "meh.." German food is good.

Had some spare time while in Buffalo, and this was within walking distance.
"Ulrich's Tavern has the distinction of being Buffalo's oldest documented continuously operating tavern/restaurant having been established in the fall of 1868 and operating for over 50,000 days."
I have to agree that this is a great place to see, but not a great beer destination. The oldest, still operating pub in Buffalo, I like the old, comfortable feel. Sure it is worn, a bit run-own looking, but that is its charm.
I didn't eat, but they have good sounding German and other pub food, and some German taps, one Flying Bison, and generic bottle list.
The bar has lots of history, and their website has lots of details and old pictures.
Staff was friendly, not too busy, but there seemed to be lots of regulars hanging around.
I love the stained glass Iroquois sign and original wooden ice boxes.

Ulrichs is a great place but would not consider this a great beer destination. They have good German and pub grub style food, but beer list is pretty standard for Buffalo.
The bar has great brewing history since is only place left in the old German brewing section of Buffalo, but the selection is not up to Beeradvocate standards. The last time I was there a few months back they had Flying Bison, and a couple stadard German beers like Paulner and Spaten. Maybe they have upgraded their beer list since, but this does not seem to be the case based on the first two reviews.

This is another of Buffalo's "old guard" bars. The history of this place could fill volumes but you can feel it when you walk in through the doors. It is a traditional corner bar type place, used to be a bunch in Buffalo but they are closing at an alarming rate. An old Iroquois beer stained glass panel still is on the back bar. Iroquois was once brewed in Buffalo many years ago. The craft beer at my last visit was provided by Flying Bison also of Buffalo. This is not a polished place, like it once was, but is a beauty for the history , the feel, and the character.

Glad to see this place made the list. It's an old, old bar in what feels like an out of the way place (though I'm sure it once wasn't)...supposedly the hospital is building across the street. At any rate, the place serves excelletn german good, the staff is extremey friendly, and place is cozy in the way that well worn taverns are. Teh draft selection is small but solid, heavy on the local but tasty flying bison brewery. I'll definitely make a point of stopping here again should my travels take me back to buffalo. Make sure you ask the bartender for phone service...you'll need it after a few beers and some sausage.
