Overall a decent shwarz lager.. served at the local Generator Berlin hostel on Fass (tap). Much better than some american dunkel lager remakes. If anyone knows Red Oak in greensboro, NC. This is a better beer than their Battlefield, but very similar in taste. Very little head and almost no reaction with the carbonation, but when served cold and as cheap as it was at the bar (2 ,5L) then its not a bad beer overall

Sampled on-tap at an outdoor concert in Deutschland...
Appearance: Dark brown/black, cola colored would be a good description. Cappucino colored head is 2 fingers thick, but dissolves quickly. Light lacing is left on glass.
Smell: Delicious dark roasted barley malt, with a hint of hops. Slight smell of chocolate and berries- not what I'd expect from a lager.
Taste: Roasted malt dominates immediately. Finishes dry due to the hops. Little bitterness in the beer, less than I would expect.
Mouth Feel: Light and fluid, like a Schwarz should be, but a little flat in the carbonation.
Drinkability: Complex yet light, a well built lager. I'd expect more bitterness, but the lack thereof makes it easy to drink more of this brew. I'd certainly have another one.

There's something about German beers. They're good, but for someone who cut their beer teeth on ales, they are a bit unsatisfying. However, all the beers I've had in Germany have had their good qualities.
Pours into a Schultheiss goblet black as night, with a nice foamy head. Smell is light hops and heavy on the breadiness found in many German style beers. I don't always agree with it, but it smells wholesome as though it were liquid bread. Taste is a hint of caramel, but mostly sourness with a clean body and some bitterness ending in bitterness and slight roastiness on the tongue. This is a good, dry (as in not sweet) schwarzbier. Mouthfeel is good, with carbonation dissipating in the mouth and not getting in the way. Drinkability is also good, though you might want to switch to something fuller before coming back to this one. You can taste the schwarz...
