Slalom: has a decent, lacing around the glass but does not stick around to long. Clear straw color. Biscuit and nutty on the nose faint hop, sweet sushi rice, dried apricot, adjunct, grainy, sweet malt, adjunct sweetness, corn kernel, alcohol. There's a nice malt flavor in the front. Sweet grain, adjunct sweetness, sushi rice, corn, hop is in the background but does not make a long or pronounce appearance. Finishes dry with that hint of apricot ( dried apricot not apricot flavoring) and alcohol. Nice beer to try.

Ah, the beer that got me enough card stamps to earn 3 T-shirts at JJ Cathedral in Firenze, Italy in '03. This stuff was not very good and I remember drinking it just for the 9% ABV. Tried it again there in '09, and this is where that review comes from (transcribed from old notes).

Dark golden color with a one-finger white head.

The aroma is grainy with pale malt and slightly vegetal hops. Not too pleasant.

The flavor is sweet pale malt, cooked vegetables, booze, and footy funk.

Harsh and boozy on the palate with medium body.

Hey, it's more complex than BMC crap but the taste and drinkability are just not there. You need "Scottish Courage" just to drink this stuff.

I am the second person to review this beer. Noticing the first entry, I wonder if I have over-valued this beer. But after a week in Italy, I've been deprived of any good beers (except Sixtus Doppelbock). This one is head and shoulders above the typical brews throughout mid-Italy. Not sure if it is "this good", but it felt so after the typical offerings.

A- Good lasting head with very slight lace. Gold to amber in color, clear

S- Wow, some hop here. OK, fairly neutral, but at least there's something.

T&M- Has a dark beer taste up front - excellent hop trailer that dies quickly. High alcohol bite that isn't present in the taste, shows up in the swallow. Slightly astringent, full bodied with accurate carbonation

D- Better than the usual fair in Italy. Honestly, I wish I were in Britain, Belgium, Germany or the Czech Republic.

Found at a grocery store in Northern Italy, this beer has a decent, soapy head and a clear straw color. The aroma is mostly alcohol, along with a bit of pale malt and a lot of grain. It has a serious adjunct aroma...corn, and a little hops. The flavor isn't as bad as the aroma projects. There's a nice malt flavor in the front. It's sweet, without being cloying. The alcohol is a bit harsh, and there's nothing to really balance and diffuse the harshness (which continues long into the finish). This is a fairly full bodied beer, more so than a lot of other strong european lagers. It's also got a little more character than most. I don't think that I'd go out of my way for it, but it was better than expected.

Yet another Strong Euro Lager found in Italy. This is exported by Scottish Courage, makers of things like McEwan's.

The beer has a dark golden color, darker than most european lagers and a foamy white head of an inch that displays moderate retention. The smell is of alcohol, not surprisingly. Some really ripe fruit notes combine with the dry malt, like cherry brandy mixed with corn husks. The taste has little to offer besides some slick maltedness from the tons used to up the ABV. Hard to say if this is all malt. I doubt it. It seems to walk the line between strong lager and malt liquor. Mouthfeel is a bit cloying, but not awful. Finer palettes will have trouble with drinkability. I see this and I see images of thousands of drunk soccer fans trampling each other to death.

Bought at a small local offie at just 79p, reduced to clear coz it had long expired (BB 31/03/2007). Served chilled in a straight pint glass.

A: pours a lightly murky dark golden hue; little sign of beer head, and strangely low in carbonation.
S: lightly grassy note, syrupy grains and sugar-cane juice.
T: the rather thin-bodied yet still syrupy taste of grainy malts comes with an assertive tinge of sour-sweet fruits, ensued by a slightly dryish-bitter finish that a strong lager cannot do without.
M&D: despite the appearance, it is mildly fizzy on the palate and helps neutralise the syrupy taste, while the alc. is not quite obvious either on nose or on palate, thus making this an easy drink. That said, the lack of enjoyable flavour - in fact, it is very bland indeed - only renders a low drinkability.
