I tried this ale on tap at a hotel bar in Paris. There was no indication on the tap where it was from, so I assumed it to be French or maybe Spanish. Upon the first gulp, however, the unmistakable Scottish Ale peaty flavor shined through. The barmaid didnt know where it was from, so I took my notes and looked it up on the net when I got home. Ah ha! Scotland! This gave me a boost in confidence that I was beginning to understand small nuances in beer styles. Miles and miles to go, but this beer sampling is a never-ending quest! Dull amber with a creamy off-white not overly carbonated head. Sweet malt, tea and dried peat aroma. Thin herbal malt and tea like bitter hops and a lime finish. Interesting! BTW - I think 801 is an area code, though I'm not sure about that.

May 2005: Rated by memory. Cask on several occasions in Scotland, possibly also bottle or can. Smooth and pleasant cask beer. Nice malty aroma. I’m ready for another one any time.
April 2006: 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal, Stavanger. Amber to brown colour, large off-white head. Moderate malty aroma, slightly sourish. Flavour is also moderately malty with low bitterness, fairly dry. Mouthfeel is "dusty" and slightly sourish, not very rich. Drinkable, but better cask conditioned.

Pours a pretty perfect bright brown. Soft off white head. This was served on nitro so the look is especially pillowy. It is a creamy, nutty (almonds), toasty concoction that is extremely pleasant to drink. Lots of brown ales are too heavily hopped, but this had some subtlety and finesse that is much appreciated.

500 ml bottle with a BB date stamp of 31 Jan. 2016.
Poured deep red-amber with a decent size tan head that displayed very good retention and left ample lacing on the glass.
Feel: medium-full body with medium carbonation.
Flavor: lightly hops such that the hops are obvious but the ale is just mildly bitter and about equally malty and hoppy.
O: wel crafted but not very interesting or complex. It did improve and strengthen with warming

I see this beer gets very high reviews. Had two bottles of this beer the other day and to be honest I found it a bit bland. Defenitely nothing special enough to deserve all the praise it seems to be getting.
I remember having a few of cans Newcastle Brown Ale a few weeks back. This is what I find this beer is very similar to.
