Cheers to the destination being the journey. Toast to going your own way off the beaten path. This beer is for the travelers, soul-searchers, explorers and thrill-seekers: who know the labyrinth is all about the journey, not the destination; just as beer is an art form to be savored, not simply a means to an end.

With delightful aroma of peanut butter cup, this beer maintains a porter backbone with twisting layers of chocolate, peanut butter and toast. An appealing balance of beer and peanut butter candy flavors.

This beer was previously retailed under the name Carpe Brewem Peanut Butter Porter.

Malts: Maris Otter, Biscuit, Dark Crystal, Roast and Midnight Wheat
Hops: Meridian
Extras: Artificial Peanut Butter Flavoring (non-allergenic), Flaked Oats and Lactose (Milk Sugar)
20 IBU

12oz bottle best by 04/17/21 (a couple days ago) poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp 14.6 OG, 20 IBU, 5% ABV per label. The beer pours bright light brown in color with mahogany highlights and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. There is a nice web of lacing. The aroma is mild with peanut and chocolate. The taste more of the same with semisweet peanut butter cup flavor to spare. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, truth in advertising. Nice porter with plenty of peanut butter.

One of the best PB porters I've yet to have! The flavor and nose are both strong peanut butter with some chocolate blended in. And the flavor follows suit with an ultra creamy mouth feel. And for $9 for a sixer it can't be beat.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with an inch or two of beige foam up top. Scant lace.

Smell: Given a pinch of cocoa powder atop the dark not-too-roasty malts. Peanut butter flavorin' drip. Damson plum fruitiness.

Taste: Light cocoa, restrained light roastiness. Sweetness boosted by lactose. Touch of dark fruitiness. The added peanut butter flavoring is present albeit a tad weak, though I would prefer that over a strong artificial quality glaring through from a heavier handed addition. Earthy, subtly nutty finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-low carbonation.

Overall: So-so.

I'm not a huge fan of this style but the good ones impress me and this one falls under that category. A real nice soft blend of peanut butter notes and chocolate. A bit like a peanut butter cup but without the cloying sweetness you'd expect. This is cleaner but still packs a lot of flavor...the aroma leans more towards freshly shelled peanuts with a dusting of cocoa..the taste brings in a little more of the chocolate but that fresh peanut flavor remains...sounds like they use artificial peanut butter flavor but whatever...it comes together nicely.

Smell of very roasty malts and peanut butter. Flavor is a tasty roasted malt typical to a nice porter with peanut butter and dark chocolate tones weighing in. The body has a satisfying bite, not too off from a stout like Deschutes' Obsidian, but with that lighter, more approachable body of a porter. Not bad, it's a solid porter, not too complex but does the job.

I got a bottle of this beer from my good friend and old neighbor from the 'Wego. It poured an opaque dark with ecru head that is leaving some lace. The scent had dark semi sweet chocolate and peanut butter notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with semi sweet chocolate malt base and hints of vanilla and peanut presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Empyrean Brewing Co. "Long Route Peanut Butter Porter"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle "Best By 05/06/23" and sampled on 12/24/22
$1.83 @ Hy-Vee #1470, Omaha, NE

Notes via stream of consciousness: The label reads "Brewed with lactose sugar, we age this porter on fresh-roasted cacao nibs then add a touch of artificial peanut butter flavor (flavoring contains caramel color)." The body is a hazy deep brown that appears black in the full pint beneath a thumb's width of rocky tan foam. Peanut butter is clearly evident in the nose over a little bit of sweet chocolate. The flavor doesn't deliver the amount of peanut butter that you might expect given the aroma but that's probably a good thing as it comes across as a porter with some added character and not a peanut butter beer that happens to have a porter base. It's chocolatey and there's a very light touch of fruitiness to it. There might be some minor leafy hop notes in there towards the finish but I'm not really sure. A moderate to median bitterness balances it and it finishes dry with sweet dark chocolate and a touch of peanut butter lingering. In the mouth it's medium bodied on the lower end and gently crisp. The head held up fairly well and it's left some nice lacing about the glass. All in all it's pretty decent but it somehow leaves me wanting. I feel that it should be a bit fuller overall but I can't argue with it just the way it is, and to be honest it's really quite well balanced. I think that the cacao nib character is nice, and believe me, I'm sure about that as I used to work at a brewery right across the street from a cacao nib plant and we used their materials quite often. I don't think that the peanut butter flavor is at all artificial although I do think it is just slightly light in intensity. I'll call it a very good beer overall but I still think it could be better.

Clear, very dark mahogany color with a moderate tan head that subsides quickly to just a ring but does produce some decent lacing.
The aroma is roasted malt, peanut butter and a hint of chocolate.
The taste is peanut butter, dark chocolate and some sweet dark malt. The peanut butter and chocolate, while out front, do not overwhelm the taste of porter beer, nicely balanced to enjoy both.
The body is light/medium, a bit watery.
Altogether this is a tasty and enjoyable brew.

From the brewer at Mountain Hops Brewhouse.

Pours almost a pitch black with a small head of foam. Some decent lacing.

The smell is pure peanut butter
peanut butter, some roasted malt, but peanut butter is dominant.

The taste is just like the smell. No deviation. It tastes like numerous peanut butter beers that I have had in the past. May
Maybe fresher?

The body is on the lighter side.

Nice.

"Best by 9/17/22"; drank 7/4/22 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice tan head; strong, frothy tree-rung lace.

Peanut butter, mild chocolate & vanilla notes in the nose.

Sticky medium mouthfeel.

Peanut butter syrup & chocolate syrup flavors; this was artificial tasting & cloying.

Permanent pass.

Empyrean Long Route Peanut Butter English Porter, 6% ABV. On tap. Pours dark brown/near-black with a ring of brown bubbles that left no lacing. Nose is some roast malt, chocolate, and peanut butter. Taste follows, with peanut butter at the forefront, slightly sweet, faintly bitter. Decent mouthfeel, if a bit under-carbonated. Overall excellent.

Pours black, minimal lacing, has a great deep smell of cocoa, chocolate and peanut butter. Mouth feel is a bit thin but taste is overall solid. Pretty darn good porter for it's price point. Have to factor the price into the review as well.
