Tried the Dark Side Porter whilst in Roanoke this week. The beer poured a dark rich amber, almost black that had a thin off-white head and pleanty of lace. The smell had malt and smoke. The taste started sweet then turned roasty and smoky. There was a nice hop bitter finish to help the balance. The mouthfeel was a medium bodied with minimal carbonation. Overall a nice porter.

A: Very dark brown, almost black in pint glass with thin head and rim of lace.
S: Malt and smokiness are the dominant aromas I could appreciate.
T: Sweet malt at first, smoky middle and hop bitter finish make this a fairly balanced beer. Reminds me of a stout more than a porter.
M: Medium bodied with minimal carbonation.
O: Enjoyable brew that I would order again.

This porter poured a clear chestnut brown with a decent head and not too much lacing. It had a good roaster smell but tasted a little sweet which was unexpected since there isn't lactose in it. It's a solid but no frills porter. Something something dark sideee...

A-Clear, deep, dark brown with ruby highlights and a thin tan head. Head hangs on nicely and leaves attractive ringing lace.
S-Very light roasted malt and a touch of chocolate.
T-More flavour than in the aroma, thanks goodness! Not overpowering by any means but a solid roasted malt base is nicely supported by a touch of chocolate a bit of earthy hops and a drying, bitter finish.
M-Medium-light bodied and somewhat disappointing. Light lingering flavour is helped by a pleasant chalky, earthy bitterness in the finish.
D-Pretty solid, but could certainly use some adjusting. At least it has some flavour and I have to admit that at least this place is TRYING! Enough flavour to be interesting that I could see myself enjoying multiple pints.

I did the Sample Pack of the 5 normal beers they have on Tap.. They normally have 6 all the time on Tap beers... 1 was out so they gave me the Seasonal in place of it...
Each sample was 3 or 4 oz.... So this will be a quick review.
A: Very Dark brown....good little head and nice lacing
S: Almost stout like.... lots of coffee, malt and a hint of chocolate & nuttyness,
T: Taste like it smells.... nice balance of bitter and sweet.... but there is a little more hops than I've had for this type...Ends with a slight bitterness... Overall Very complex.
M: Full bodied, creamy and smooth
D: Hard to tell with only 3 or 4 oz... This is my second favorite of the bunch...
Over all not a bad brew but it is not the best Porter I've had.... It does remind me a little of a Stout more than a Porter....
