This is Freetail’s blonde ale. Typically I’m not a fan so saying that I liked this is not light praise.

It pours a cloudy golden color. No discernible aroma to speak of—typical of the style? Or just my inability to pick any of it up? It’s light, refreshingly sweet but not overly so, with a pleasing biscuity malt finish that really makes it work for me.

Sampled on tap at the Freetail-Real Ale barrel-aged festival in San Antonio.

The beer pours a hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma is grain with a little bit of citrus and maybe some adjuncts such as corn. The flavor is more of the same. I get some yeast as well as grain. Not much going on here. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

On tap at the brewpub in the outskirts of San Antonio.

Clear light amber with a durable white head that leaves spots of lacing.

Well crafted, with good balance but the aroma is more malty and the flavor is more hoppy than usual for style.

O: a modestly bold American Blonde. Great introductory craft beer.

On tap at brewpub.

A: Pale straw yellow. No head.

S: Sweet fruit, citrus, and grainy malt.

T: Malt, biscuit, and some light citrus.

M: Spritzy carbonation and thin body.

D: Last beer I drank that day and I don't remember it. I can only say from my notes that this wasn't great. Usually after a few beers anything is good but this one was just average at best.

Tasting notes from 3/31 visit to brewery. Pours burnt copper, high foam. Aroma is a citrus floral nose. Sharp taste for a blonde. Almost an amber. Good hops mix. Very good.

Pours a somewhat hazy, deep golden color with a creamy, fine-bubbled head. Some nice lacing is evident as well. It is darker and cloudier than most blonde ales.

Smell is on the right track as well with a rich, dextrinous malty aroma. Has some mild cut hay hop notes as well.

Wow, this is malty as hell, but not cloyingly sweet, in fact it is barely sweet at all. Has a robustly creamy, almost wheat like tang (is there some wheat or rye in here?). Somewhat toasty bitterness plays well with a bit of hops to clean up the finish nicely. Actually, a damn fine blonde ale. I like it, makes a great thirst quencher and should be one of the first beers drank in a tasting.

Yellow and clear with a decent head and decent lacing. About what you'd expect from a blonde ale.

The smell was kind of weak but pleasant nonetheless. Wheat aromas come to mind, along with some hops and some fruitiness.

Taste wise there was a touch of yeast along with some graininess, a little hops, and some floral flavors. Not bad.

Feel was very light and a little thin, but enjoyable.

Overall it was an easy beer to drink and while not spectacular, it was still quite tasty.

A: Pours a light hazy golden/orange color. A one finger white head forms and recedes to leave some light lace.
S: Citrus and floral hops are big. Some passion fruits, orange peal, and a light grainy sweetness.
T: Passion fruits seem to be up front and center. Pineapple and pears. Floral and grassy hops. Light orange peal and a grainy sweetness.
M/D: A light to medium body that has crisp carbonation. A little thin though. Really easy to drink. All day with this one.

Overall this is a really good every day beer. Plenty of flavor and substance. A great beer for the long hot Texas summers, or anytime while at Freetail.

I've been sampling the ipa's at freetail brewing, which may explain why i feel this beer has zero flavor
