A yellow-orange brew that smells of coriander, lemon, orange and other faint spice. Beer bread, more coriander and orange, grapefruit and gum on the palate. Pretty complex. Light to medium with a touch of alcohol.
A damn good outing form a brewery I plan to get more familiar with.

Bottled on 12/12/2014!
Appearance: Pours out a nice murky and light golden color, filled with carbonation and topped off with a white bubbly head. Medium lacing.
Smell: Light floral smells mixed in with light citrus fruit and lots of berries. There’s a mild bready aroma too.
Taste: Sweet and fruity overall, (the fruits are mild) , spices mixed in with peaches, apricot and persimmon.
Mouthfeel: Crips, light to medium bodied, lots of carbonation.
Overall: This is a nice crisp, rye ale, very easy to drink and very enjoyable. This one aged well.

Poured at 47°F from a 22oz bottle (07Dec15) into a stange. Consumed on 03Feb16.
LOOK: Pours with a fingers worth of white foam that dissipates into a quarter fingers worth after 1 minute and 20 seconds. Dark straw yellow in color with a high amount of cloudiness. Rising bubbles are medium in size and high in quantity. Lacing is moderate is thin and moderate in quantity.
SMELL: Strong aromas of equally sour and spicy rye entangle with mild aromas of wheat, chamomile, and lemony zest. Hints of peaches, apricots, mangos, and papaya are also present.
TASTE: Strong flavors of spicy and sour rye enter initially and ar immediately followed by strong chamomile flavors and subtle mango, peach, papaya, and apricot flavors. Mild wheat and lemony zest flavors enter lastly along with hints of bitter hops as all previous flavors persist.
FEEL: Somewhere between full-bodied and medium-bodied. Highly carbonated. Goes down somewhat smooth. Finishes crisp.
NOTE: Only my second Rye Beer. This was deliciously brewed under the assumption that you like the spicy/sour characteristics of rye.

Unique take on a wit, both with the malt and with the higher abv which does pack a boozy punch. Lots of tree fruits, sweet malt, and somewhat funky brett.

i have very often dreamed of making a rye wit, but have never gotten around to it. this is the first one i have seen at a commercial level i think, and its execution is fabulous. i was lucky to just land a big haul of texas beer, which i am excited to drink through during the weeks to come, but this one couldnt wait. looks the part, hazy and pale, evidently a very pale rye malt was used as opposed to some of the higher SRM types. the nose is clearly belgian, but it seems more than just wit yeast. it almost has a little barnyard thing going on that brings out the spice of the rye really well. this is also one of those seemingly rare occasions where more alcohol actually is needed for whats going on. the rye needs the wheat, and the depth of flavors need slower consumption for understanding and appreciation, and the warming finish provides that. i pick up quite a bit of citrus in it too, lemons mostly, maybe some orange peel, but i dont get any coriander at all, the usual additive for the style. its not without being a little herbal too though, maybe from the yeast its tough to say. in the end, the rye malt makes the witbier really something to behold. its not way outside the box, its still real approachable, but its a very inventive take on a tiring style. well done by freetail!
