A - Pours up jet black and opaque with a lingering off white head.

S - Very subtle sweet malt smell with hints of chocolate

T - some caramel sweetness, but faint, with wisps of chocolate in the finish

M - Medium bodied with strong carbonation.

D - Smooth and easy to drink. Not cloying. Two or three of these would be pleasant.

Thanks to jkwalking05 and travita for sharing this growler of San Antonio goodness.

The beer pours dark brown with an off-white head. The aroma is caramel and chocolate malts. The flavor is coffee, chocolate, caramel, spices and toffee. Thin-medium mouthfeel and low carbonation. A complex, Belgian-style ale that is very nice.

A: Pours a dark brown color. A small beige head forms and recedes quickly. Light lace.
S: Some funky yeast, roasted malt and chocolate. Interesting, but odd.
T: Follows the nose. Funky yeast, malt and chocolate. Again, interesting.
M/D: A medium body with a little to much carbonation. Easy to drink. I can put back a few with ease.

Not bad at all, just not one of my favorite Freetail beers. In the end, more interesting than good.

This is a dark saison—typically a warm-weather beer—for the cold months. Although Texas winters aren’t much of a winter, and they don’t last very long. We had temperatures in the 60s and 70s the past two days, followed by a chilly night—which is just to say that a dark, ‘winter’ saison somehow fits.

This is a ruddy, ruby-brown/black color, like… a cherry cola, perhaps. There’s a light, sweet aroma with some vanilla on the nose. The vanilla is present on the flavor as well, more so than the cacao and orange peel. It’s sweet, with a good fizzy effervescence keeping it light.

A winter saison...very intriguing.

The beer is near black with a half inch of tan head. The aroma offers floral hops, yeast, light toffee. Darker malts with a healthy bitterness in the finish. A truly interesting beer, and well done. Light to medium in body. Lingering flavors of hop resin with a hint of chocolate. A solid beer from Freetail.
