The can promised a pale, pilsner-like appearance. Imagine my surprise when it poured a cloudy, burnt orange. Subdued aroma with at least as much malt as hops on the nose. I would prefer an IPA to hit me in the face with hops but I have had great IPAs at the brewery so I have high hopes. Nice and bitter up front with some malt sweetness kicking in mid-palate. Maybe a little too caramelly for my taste. Some lemon/grapefruit, not much pine. I like this beer but it I may have been spoiled by their Simcoe IPA that blew me away and now maybe I expect too much from them. But again, a very good IPA in my book.

Always happy to show Texas some love.

Got a buddy to send me some stuff from the brewpub

A: Pours Orange/Brown with a nice bubbly head and good retention

S: Earthy, Yeasty, Pine. A bid subdued for an IPA in terms of something that stands out here.

T: Bready. A bit watery. Nice hop finish.

M: Crisp, but nothing amazing. Flavor builds with each sip but still leaving something to be desired.

D: Easy drinking, sessionable IPA.

From the artwork, I was expecting a bit more flavor from this IPA. I figured that since its dry hopped it would stand out a bit more but it left me hanging a bit. I think I'd like to try this on draft to compare because the other reviews seem to indicate that on tap the taste stands out a bit more.

I think its good, but other Texas IPAs like Stash IPA blows this outta the water. I wouldn't go out of my way for this one.

Not very pils-like in appearance, per the can. Cloudy orange with a solid frothy white head. Smells of tropical fruit, musk, burnt rubber. All hops in the nose. Taste: loads of citrus from the orange and grapefruit spectrum, along with a bit of funky hop. Good bitterness with a bitter-sweet balance. Ends with a lingering bitterness and a dry finish. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, with a moderately weighted body. Excellent. I can't believe this is from TX.

Appearance:
Slightly hazy and a darker burnt orange at first, it clears up after a while and lightens up just a bit to reveal a light burnt orange color with plenty of carbonation inside. The head starts off about two fingers thick and thins out into a light layer of bubbles with some thick lacing.
Smell:
Hops and mild spices mixed in with some grapefruit and floral aromas.
Taste:
The bitterness kicks in as soon as it hits your tongue and gains strength as it hits the corners of your mouth. The sweetness In it comes out around the middle of your tongue. The hops leave a nice lingering flavor well after you swallow.
Mouthfeel:
Medium bodied.
Overall:
Very good overall, the balance is pretty good and it’s a smooth drinker.
