This was a …curious brew. Brewed with tunas (prickly pears)—how could I pass it up?

It pours extremely foamy, with a pinkish hue to it. On second thought its very pink—must be from the tunas.
Aroma is reminiscent of agua de tuna (tuna water—so refreshing in the summer!) and strawberries. Flavor is very fruity, more than floral, with a prickly pear flavor dominating and a light finish. An interesting blend of flavors with some fun notes to it but not a whole lot of character and depth beyond the tuna flavor. That said, I’d love to see more experimental brews using ingredients from this region in unique and different ways. How about a lemony, citrusy IPA with tunas? Or a cucumber-tuna flavored saison? Or… tuna with chamoy? Tamarindo and tuna? I think what I’m going for here is that agua fresco savory-sweet combination which I think would be effective in a beer. Then again, once the temperature hits triple digits this one might just hit the spot.

On tap at the brewpub shortly after the La Muerta bottle release.

The beer pours an orange-red-pink tomato color with a small white head. The aroma is full of prickly pear notes with not too much else going on. Very one-dimensional and not that appealing overall.

The flavor is very similar to that of pickled capers. There is also a little bit of fruit from the prickly pear, but it is the pickled notes that really stand out. Not really sure what to think of the beer, other than that it is very, very odd.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
