Freetail Brewing is a brew pub cloaked in a pizza joint pretending to be a sports bar. I like it. Will definitely visit again. Unfortunately it is about a 15 mile drive from downtown, so for frequent travelers like me who would love to hit a place like this, it will definitely take some effort and probably a rental car.

A - Open, bright enough, clean, no stale beer smell, loud when crowded, lots of TVs. An outdoor area, but too cold, though a few people were still braving the unusually cold San Antonio weather. - 4

Q – Correct glass ware, but the Old Bat Rastard was served too cold (of course it was below 40 outside!). Life could be worse. - 4.5

S - Excellent waiter, friendly, knowledgable about beer and food. – 4.5

S – Nine house beers on tap plus some guest beers and cider. - 4

Food – Go for the pizza. I had a Palamero (white pizza) to which i added spicy sausage. Yum! Good food to go with good beer. 4.5

Value – Three beers and a medium pizza (just for myself) cost me about $35 with tip. $$

Had lunch with Da Boss today at the brewpub in North San Antonio.

Vibe was OK, strip center location on top of a hill. Plenty of outdoor seating where we hung out on a beautiful April day with temps in the mid to upper 70's. Indoor seating was ample. Overall you might get 150 folks in the indoor/outdoor seating.

Quality of the beer was solid as the "imperial" red and stout (both weighing in in the low 7.0 abv range) were tasty and worthy of another shot.

Service from Jose was solid, nice enough guy who could easily cover the entire indoor/outdoor areas on a less than busy 2:00 Wednesday last lunch crowd.

Selection was solid with about 15 or so house brews. Not sure if they had guest handles.

Food was solid as i had a brisket Philly Cheesesteak. Da Boss liked her chicken sandwich.

Overall i am glad we stopped. San Antonio does not have much to offer brewpub wise considering it is the 7th largest city in the US so make it a point to stop here if you are visiting.

Great food! Brews are all great, and they always have an awesome selection. Waitresses are super hot and friendly. Atmosphere is nice, but the porch is the best place to be, whether it's hot or cold out.

On top of a hill with some restaurants just off the loop, there is a hint of a picturesque view on the back end. Freetail's interior has a wide open floor, a shockingly insane number of HDTVs, and even a projector screen. The sound is cranked to 11 on just about every sporting event you can think of. You'd think this was a sports bar first and foremost, except it's a brewpub, and, you can hear the games better than you would a sports bar--is it a plus or a minus? I'll let you decide.

The tap list has a good, large selection of their own brews, plus a few other guest taps, which are mostly other locals. A good number of sours are featured, which is what I went for and I was not disappointed. There were also some risky IPA experiments, and some standard darker beers.

They have a decent food selection, including some features for the cool wood fired oven, such as pizza and other yummies flying out in quick succession. If you're not familiar with the area, and the loop around San Antonio, it's a little confusing to get to, even for a good GPS. Otherwise, good location, interesting brews, if not a little overboard on the sports TV offerings.

While I'm not impressed with the basic interior or the sound of the room (lots of hard surfaces) at Freetail, it's OK. I'd rather sit outside though. I appreciate that they get a college crowd, and that they support that, and that's what the interior and decor seem to be designed for. I'm not against it, I just want you to know what to expect. The big parking lot is a bonus.

They do have some pretty decent pizza though, and let's face it, we're going for the beer. At least the beers you can't get somewhere else pretty readily. I've found the bar staff to be quite good, well above average, and that makes a difference to me. But again, back to the beer, that's what seals the deal for me: 15 on tap with 4 guests to boot... not bad, and more than half of those are rotating or one-off specialties. Worth a trip.

Great environment, nice atmosphere with the people, and decent view of the hillside it resides on. Heard it was more beautiful before they built the houses surrounding the hills but nonetheless very nice scenery to enjoy a cold craft brew. Staff very knowledgeable of their beer selection so very helpful in deciding what beers to have. Overall great experience.

Vibe - Nice place to go. Usually always packed and has a really good following. Lots of tv's
Quality - I'm a little less impressed with the majority of their beers than many people seem to be. Some of their limited release stuff is very good, but the majority of the what they have on their 16 taps at any given time I find just to be average.
Service - Service seems to be hit and miss. Sometimes I have great service, other times it seems the bartenders couldn't care less if I'm there or not. That's why I rated a 3.5 for service. I will say the past two times I've been, the service has been really good.
Selection - 16 beers on taps and several guest taps.
Pizza is excellent and what keeps me coming back. Highly recommend getting it.

Great beers, especially the various 'Wit' beers. Food at the north (pub) location is very good. Food truck at the production facility (south) is excellent (Mr. Fish'. Taco Truck).
