BEER INFO

Brewed by:
New Orleans Lager & Ale Brewing Company (NOLA)
Louisiana, United States | website

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This 6.0% ABV ale is a West Coast style India Pale Ale that combines 6 malts and 6 hops with additional dry hopping for three weeks. It takes about a month and a half to make each batch and we think it is worth the wait. Hints of pine and citrus with a powerful, yet balanced hoppy flavor, Hopitoulas packs a punch that you won’t forget.

A: Brightly clear, vibrant light reddish orange body. Frothy, big bubbly, dirty white head.

S: Light caramel sweetness, orange/citrus hops are muted at best (no BoD). Distinct mineral/metal smell.

T: Rich caramel malt sweetness, hints of grainy bread, followed by a mineral, watery taste. Big metallic finish that lingers.

M: Medium-full body. Heavy bitterness, hops linger and CO2 bites.

O: Received from a friend that visited NO. Have to assume this can is old as hops are present but weak. Would try again but this attempt failed.

Poured into a pint glass at Avenue pub

Appearance: 1/ inch head, orange-brown in color, clear, moderate carbonation

Smell: pine and floral hops

Taste: big dose of pine hops with some caramel taste to smooth things out

Mouthfeel: light bodied, sweet start with a bitter middle and a finish, moderate carbonation

Overall: A good piney and hoppy IPA. A beer that I could have several of and enjoy. Nothing mind blowing but a solid beer.

From a growler filled at the Avenue Pub. The beer pours an orange-amber color with a large white head. The aroma has a nice amount of bread and toffee, with some strong pine notes added in. The flavor is more hoppy than the aroma. I get quite a bit of pine and orange citrus, with some grass also thrown in. The bready malt keeps the bitterness fairly low and allows the hop flavor to shine. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Again on tap at huck Finns. A pint for a buck-I'm in!

A-burnt orange in color and cloudy with a short but sturdy head-decent lacing

S-hops hit me first-grassy floral and slightly earthy carried with a nice whiff of caramel malt

T- very similar to the nose. You get whiffs of hops with plenty of toasty sweet malt that finishes distinctively grassy and slightly bitter

M-nice mouthfeel. Good malt backbone for a 6% beer. Moderate carbonation carries the hops in nicely

O-A solid ipa. I like the body. The hops are a bit on the grassy side but this a solid IPA

Standard IPAs are a bit hard to find here in the Big Easy. This is a solid selection from a local brewer. Drink. Enjoy. Repeat.

Appearance: Semi-cloudy amber, with some slight sediment. Maybe an older can? Big, thick head of bone-white carbonation, and a solid tree-line of lace.

Aroma: Subtle floral and pine hops. Not bad.

Flavor: Tangy, bitter, acidic hops. Very spiky and incisive on the palate, with more pine and bitter citrus grapefruit hops dominating the malt backbone.

Not a bad IPA, just not a great one.

A - Dark amber pour with a crème colored foam that is high and clingy. Minimal lacing, and slight carbonation.

S - Some bready yeast notes, an earthy hop aroma, and some lemongrass hit the nose. This smells like a rustic IPA.

T - Some citrus notes in the initial sip. There is some mild malt flavors before the finish. The tongue gets hit with a raspy bitterness that compliments this beer.

M - Easy drinking IPA. This is preferred for someone who likes an earthy feel to the style.

O - First try from NOLA and this is a brewery I'd look to try again. A solid offering with a distinctive twist.

Poured from a can with a burnt orange to amber color. Thick head with crisp bubbles. Head diminishes to soapy consistency. Not much lacing. Light bodied. Plenty of hops. Tastes piney with hints of lemon. A tad on the sweet side. Not much bitterness. Still, overall a good balance and a pleasure to drink. Makes for a good summer beer.

Had a few pints around New Orleans, easily one of the best beers in town. I loved the contrast of fruity, floral hops up front, with a rich, deep grapefruit and pine finish. Mixed in for balance was a healthy share of bready, toffee malt to balance out the bitterness. Overall, a damned tasty IPA.
