Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This 6.0% ABV ale is a West Coast style India Pale Ale that combines 6 malts and 6 hops with additional dry hopping for three weeks. It takes about a month and a half to make each batch and we think it is worth the wait. Hints of pine and citrus with a powerful, yet balanced hoppy flavor, Hopitoulas packs a punch that you won’t forget.

One of my all-time fav Southern breweries. Hopitoulas, pronounced hop-a-choo-las, after a street in NOLA. This is a super good West Coast style India Pale Ale that combines six malts and six hops with additional dry hopping for three weeks. Hints of pine and citrus with a powerful, yet balanced hoppy flavor.

Thanks for the growler newgeneric!

A-redish, transparent, amber hue, little lace
S-more malt than hops. Hops hit the nose second, rather than first
T-tastes aLot like it smells. Very light on the hops, bit they are still there
M-medium body, lightly carbonated and smooth
D-very drinkable, almost danergous

Best by 2/8/13. Poured from a can into a snifter. Off-white head. Moderate retention. Clear, sticky lacing. Aroma is very nice, hoppy pine and grassy goodness dominates. Taste is slightly sweet but very nicely bittered with grapefruity goodness. Packing a nice hop punch, this can delivers.

It pours a hazy gold with a huge thick white head, slow fade and nice walls of lace.

The aroma is a beautiful boquet of light lemon citrus, orange peel, and grapefruit zest. Pine notes linger with some floral notes. Toasty background.

Nice toasted malt and caramel sweet touch with citrus rind, fresh oranges, and lemon pepper. Tart notes fade into pine and leather with a dry finish.

Very interesting and complex blend of flavors and how they roll on the tounge.

Very good beer. Aggressive, but nice sipper.

Serving Type was a growler purchased by my wife in New Orleans at Avenue Pub and brought to me here in Florida.

Appearance- The beer pours an amber gold color with a nice head which disapates quickly. A sticky, spider web like lacing was present.

Smell- The aroma was a bit lacking. Nice subtle hints of piney hops. Could have been because it was poured from a growler.

Taste- HUGE hops flavors. The bitterness attacks my tongue and doesn't let go. I get a nice slight hint of citrus in the front that lets go into HOPS!

Mouthfeel- Medium body with nice carbonation(even after being in a growler).

Drinkability- Fantastic and very drinkable IPA. This one is on the upper end of IPAs in terms of its hoppiness. Too bad it won't be year round.

Was thrown one of these by a friend while I was on my balcony. Alright alright alright. This is beer that knows how to party. I would not want to lose this in 10 days. There may be a time to kill, but it ain't when you kicking one of these. I was on the phone with a wedding planner, having thirteen conversations about the same thing, when I realized I was on my tiptoes, a very clear case of failure to launch. So what did I do? I yell two for the money, this ain't fools gold! I took a seat in my favorite chair, wondering if there was a Lincoln lawyer who could track down my ghosts of girlfriends past. Maybe a true detective instead? I bet his name would be Bernie or Killer Joe.
I was also in Amistad

Copper color, very clear, light tan head. Aromas are heavy pine and some citrus, with some caramalt, too.

Taste is lots of pine, but the citrus really comes forward, and then the malty backbone kicks in to balance this and make it a joy to drink on a steamy NOLA afternoon.

Poured into a Dogfish Spiegelau glass. No freshness date.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 3/4 inch beige head that retains quite well before decaying to an 1/8 inch head. Sticky cobwebs of lacing adhere nicely to the glass.

S- Dank, musty hop aroma that's more piney and earthy than citrusy. Toasty malt in the back. Somewhat effervescent.

T- The toasted malt is surprisingly the first flavor to hit, then the hops come in with a solid bite. Well-balanced with the alcohol not being overly noticeable. There's a slight metallic taste I chalk up to the variety of hops used, apparently six different varietals. The bitterness doesn't linger long which is fine.

M- Tight but smooth and semi-dry. Medium carbonation and a body that leans toward the fuller side.

O- A very drinkable and flavorful IPA from this small regional brewery. Looking forward to trying more of their beers.

The first thing is not the appearance but the smell. Baaam, citrus hops right to th face and palate! Pours out amber with a good head that laces the glass. Carbonation is just right and light to style. Tastes lemony and a rich toasted malt. Body is thin however but is very drinkable. This is a pretty good beer that beats out a lot of those West Coast smug beers.

This seems to be getting more popular all the time. Which is great. I first had it at dba, then again at Three Muses, and a bunch of different places in NO.

A: Pours a slightly hazy golden/orange color. A small white head forms and recedes to leave some lace.
S: Floral, grassy, citrus hops. Well balanced with caramel malt. Very simple, but enjoyable.
T: Follows the nose. Citrus and grassy hops. A bit more pine resiny hops than the nose. Again very well balanced with the caramel malt.
M/D: A medium body and carbonation. Just a bit thin IMO. So easy to drink. All day with this one.

Just simple, and I like it. Perfect while walking around Frenchman St or the Quarter.

nawleens makes good everything, and a good IPA. this one is dark gold and flavor sits nicely in the mouth. the afternotes are stimulating and show the complexity of the brew and the time they take to brew it. i love a lot of other IPAs more but this one smacks of Big Easy , easiness. Great pairing for crawdads or your favorite entoufee!

yall come back now , y'hear?
