Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This 6.0% ABV ale is a West Coast style India Pale Ale that combines 6 malts and 6 hops with additional dry hopping for three weeks. It takes about a month and a half to make each batch and we think it is worth the wait. Hints of pine and citrus with a powerful, yet balanced hoppy flavor, Hopitoulas packs a punch that you won’t forget.

Standard IPAs are a bit hard to find here in the Big Easy. This is a solid selection from a local brewer. Drink. Enjoy. Repeat.

Great light IPA, good taste, smell is ok, a little dark for a true IPA, but good!

"Hopitoulas is the product of our Brewmaster Peter "Hopzilla" Caddoo's 30 plus years of brewing experience and overall love for IPA's. Created at our Tchoupitoulas Street Brewery, our dry-hopped India Pale Ale was hand crafted with six malts and six hops to accentuate aromas of citrus and pine. We think you'll taste the passion and dedication that has gone into this brew. Brewed with love, brewed in New Orleans." Brewed in the style of an American IPA, available in 16 oz. cans and on year-round draft.

Poured from a 16 oz. can to a tulip pint glass.

(Appearance) Pours a foamy frothed head of a pastel white color over a mildly hazy golden amber body with light carbonation. Retention is good and lacing is light and patchy. 3.75

(Smell) Lemony, citrusy and light tropical fruit hop notes forward, with lightly toasted caramel syrups, pale malts and light biscuit malt profile. Very enjoyable aroma with a moderate potency. 4

(Taste) Light caramel and pale malts, biscuit malts, light sweetness, mild lemon and tropical fruit notes. 3.5

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, lightly residual, clean and moderately dry. Carbonation is moderate with a medium frothiness and a full crispness. Body is medium for the style, shy of medium overall. Balance is slightly hoppy bitter over sweet. Alcohol presence is light and there are no off characters. 4

(Overall) NOLA brews a solid IPA in Hopitoulas with a delicate citrusy and tropical fruit profile and an equally solid malt backbone with a high drinkability to it. Nicely packaged in 16 oz. cans and a great fitting option for drinking in quaffable quantities. Worth a try as a solid IPA from the Louisiana craft beer scene. 3.75
