“7th Street Wheat” started out as our Summer seasonal, but cue to its popularity has made its own place in our year round ales. Named in honor of the 7th Street wharf across the street from the brewery, this filtered wheat ale is light-bodied American style with pounds of fresh lemon-basil added after fermentation. The light citrus taste with a hint of spicy herb on the back goes well with almost any seafood dish, and from what we hear, is a favorite at bars as a stand alone refreshing beer.

I had this at their Barley Oak rollout party and touring the NOLA brewery not long after it came out. I'm normally not a huge wheat beer drinker, but this is really nice.
It's color is light straw-like with good head and lacing.
The aroma is of wheat, spice, citrus.
Flavor is very approachable. The lemon basil is in just the right amount to balance the wheat/yeast flavors without overpowering. I can down a few of these without thinking about it.
If I was a big wheat beer drinker I'd probably have this even higher.

Picked this up in the The Big Easy at a place on Canal St, when I was down that way right after Halloween. Never had anything from NOLA before and this was well suited to the city as it was easygoing, slightly spicy, and fun to drink while not quite being like any American Pale Wheat Beer that I've had before!
This poured like a Pilsner in that it was gold, bright, and full of bubbly streams that held their own. Lots of foam topped this off as there were a few wavy rings of lacing left behind along the lower half of my pint glass. Loads of lemongrass, basil, and seafood spice in the nose as the taste closely followed suit. Wheat and grass emerged in the taste along with a soda-like mouthfeel from the carbonation, as this was quite crisp and refreshing while saying pretty full-bodied on the palate. Some cereal and grain added to that as they were a bit more prevalent in the back, once I finished this off.
Couldn't detect any alcohol in this and a light citrus twang was enough to fill in for that and remind me that indeed, this was a beer and not something else. "BATCH#2279" was written on the bottom of the can, with "22112" written below that although I'm not sure if this was canned on 112th day of last year. If so, it held up well and would be something I'd reach for the next time I'm down there, to go with seafood or a good southern boil. Loved the artful label and how enjoyable this was!

The CANQuest (tm) marches on in the face of CANbined U.S. Election Day & Guy Fawkes Day! I have the day off since the schools are mysteriously closed while they are in session on Monday, which is Veterans' Day. 8=( I CANnot explain these things, but I CAN drink, review & rate a beer, which is what I intend to do now.
From the CAN: "Named in honor of the 7th Street Wharf across the street from the brewery, this filtered wheat ale has pounds of fresh lemon basil added after fermentation. The light citrus taste with a hint of spicy herb on the back helps keep you cool during those hot summer days, which in our town is pretty much all of the time."; "'Laissez la bonne bière verser'".
Let the good beer pour, indeed! But first, I had to Crack! open the vent to get things started. Next came the burning question of the afternoon - what sort of Glug to employ? Why did they filter a Wheat Ale? I figured that since they went to the trouble of filtration that I would CANtinue in that vein & perform a slow, gentle C-Line Glug. Lissen, I'm all for clarity, I am not a huge proponent of filtration since it strips flavor, but a Wheat Ale CAN be cloudy by definition. What is this? A krystalweizen? Horse hockey pucky! Fine. I got a brief finger-plus of fizzy, foamy, rocky, bone-white head for my trouble, but it quickly fell away to wisps. Color was like liquid sunshine in my glass on this cool Autumn afternoon, a gorgeous Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4-5) with NE-quality clarity, calling forth The Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus for a taste. While they were doing their thing, I did my thing & leaned in for a sniff. Nose was definitely lemon & basil, so perhaps the filtration was to establish a base for these flavors. It definitely put me in the mood for some fish, maybe salmon, maybe red snapper. Mmm. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not much beyond it, either. The taste had the usual tartness of wheat along with a bright citrusiness from the lemon as well as a lightly herbal quality from the basil. As to this last, it was perfect as a little basil CAN go a long way, in foods, in beer, in anything. It is a strong herb and one that you only want to add a tiny bit a t a time when cooking. Once upon a time, there was a pizza beer that featured basil & oregano! 8=O Sure, it mimicked a Margharita Pizza, but is that what you want to drink as a beer?!? Too powerful. This was nicely subtle. I CAN certainly understand why the would recommend it on a Summer's day, but I think that it would be a beautiful acCANpaniment to a fish supper. Finish was semi-dry, very refreshing, slightly spritzy with the lemon and quite quaffable at just 4.5% ABV. YMMV.

-lager glass. Lemon basil added. Looks good til 04.19.18. Consumed 07.24.18. 40 days and the coal ran out.
A: Pale hazy orange coloring, with a light spacious rise of carbonation. The head quickly fell, the glass remained clean of its influence.
S: Sweet ginger ale like aroma, with wet basil. Sweetened grapefruit and wheat add support. Nice strength overall, spicy, sweet, like a lemon flavored ginger ale or shandy.
T: Sparkling ginger ale/grapefruit-lemon flavor. Strong support base of wheat gives this a dry base, along with some hefe like yeastiness. Sweet, spicy flavor, ginger/grapefruit with a basil twang upon the swallow.
M: Nice crispness, tingly, soda like, with a medium body.
O: Overall drinks a like a sweet grapefruit-ginger ale or shandy. Crisp wheat summer time drink. Refreshing, sparkling. More alcohol beverage like.
