This is an American style stout that has sweet malt flavors of caramel and chocolate, complimented by a crisp bitterness produced by roasted barley and American Hops. The complex malt bill of pale and roasted malts result in this well balanced stout that is smooth, rich, dark and delicious! And watch out – ABV 6.8%!

NOLA Irish Channel Stout has a thin, beige head, a deep, dark brown appearance, bubbles clinging to the glass, and some thin lacing left on the glass. The aroma is faint, but one can detect roasted malt and some sort of sweet cream. Taste is of sweet, dark-roasted barley malt, char, acidity, some bitterness, and a touch of chocolate. Mouthfeel is light to medium and a bit slick, and NOLA Irish Channel Stout finishes mostly dry, a bit powdery, rich, and decently drinkable. No alcohol detected with this beer.

Roasty, Molasses, Silky, Even

Don’t let the name fool you, this is an American Stout through and through. Bold, roasty flavors rock my palate right from the start and slowly fade. A good dose of hops, too. Irish Channel is perhaps a little harsh, but it doesn’t surpass the threshold for hefty Stouts. A sweetness appears in the middle to even this beer out. The smoothness deceives at first, though there is some warmth from the alcohol halfway through the glass. One tallboy was not enough.

Taste is dry chocolate and roasted malt. There is some baker's cocoa in there as well with a touch of smoke. A good beer, especially for the style. One I could have several glasses of.

Thanks to jjfoodie for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is full of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is very similar. The predominant flavor is cocoa powder, with some medium roasted malts also thrown in. Even with all of the malt, the beer is very dry. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Dark black in color and impenetrable to light. There's a fingernail of brown sitting on top. The aroma is comprised of dark roasted barley and piney hops. I taste a nice dark and rich blend of dark roasted barley, piney hops, and coffee. The mouth is smooth and creamy.

Bomber sent to me from LSUPT from the One Bottle Need Karma LIF, thanks again man! Finally crackin it open, and damn is it a beauty. Pitch black pour with a coffee khaki head tracking lacing behind in its wake. Chocolate dominated aroma with some kind of bittering dark chocolates present and a touch of a sweet fruit like quality. Same on the tongue with a remarkable drying bitterness in back. Aftertaste is roasty & lingers til the next sip. This stout is pretty much spot on - creamy body, well carbed, chocolate bomb. Only significant critique is that I wish the body was beefed up a bit.
