Formerly Driftwood Gose-uh
Brewed in the tradition of the artisan brewers of Leipzig, this rare wheat beer is called Gose, pronounced 'gose-uh'. This style was extinct twice in Germany, but is today enjoying a revival in Leipzig and here in North America. Dry, tart, citrusy and deliciously refreshing on a hot summer’s day!

Driftwood Gose-uh pours a very hazy yellow with a nice dense head. Sweet wheat malt and corriander fill the nose, just a hint perfumey. The flavor is surprisingly sweet, with some nice light wheat character. The coriander is noticable in the flavor, and there is just a tinge of a light, tartness in the finish to balance out the sweetness. The sourness comes through just a little bit in the finish, and there is no bitterness perceived. I don't really get the saltiness at all, but that is probably a good thing.
Overall a really refreshing, interesting beer, although not quite as sour as I had expected. Being my first non-homebrew gose, I don't have much to compare it to.

Straw filtered with moderate carbonation and five fingers of off white head.
Smells of coriander, salt water, and lemon zest.
Taste is sour, fruity slightly sweet with hints of white grape. Slightly salty.
Light body with moderate carbonation.
I got this in Banff Alberta and I’m drinking it in Redding California October 30, 2019.

Golden yellow in color with a very slight chill haze to it, poured with a half finger of bright white thinnish looking head that had poor retention and left very little, runny lacing.
Aroma is lightly sour lemons and lactic acid with some slightly fruity notes to it.
The front end is a bit more complex then I was expecting, with a more of a fruity quality to it then most Gose's, lightly tart with a fruity orange and lemon zest and maybe some faint hints of berries.
Light bodied almost thin, with a highish amount of carbonation to it, very faint malt presence with light wheat hints to it.
Finish has a ghostly herbal hop hint to it as well as a very faint trace of salt and cilantro on the back-end, leaves a lightly sour and fruity aftertaste on the palate.

At the Irish Times Pub, Victoria, BC
Came as a draft.
Very cloudy golden pour with a snow white head that had average retention.
Aroma: Tart, acedic, a faint lemon scent comes through.
Taste: A bit too sour for me. Tart for sure. Mouthfeel is thin, especially compared to its appearance.
After some adjustment to the palate, I enjoyed the second half of the glass better than the beginning

Really great beer. I really like nice tart beers. Puckerers. This doesn't pack that sour punch some sour beers do. What it does have is a noticeable, if subdued tartness, and extreme drinkability.
Looks like slightly cloudy pale yellow delight, with loads of bubbles and a thin head. The aroma from all those bubbles is very light. A bit of citrus and yellow grass.
The flavour and body is where this beer comes together. Lots of prickles from all those bubbles add to the slight acidic tartness and lift the crisp citrusy body gently into your mouth. so quaffable and refreshing, with notes of lime and orange, and a bit of coriander, balanced with a suggestion of funk in the background somewhere.
I could drink this all afternoon. Belongs on a beach.

Really mild with low sourness. A wheat beer- sour hybrid, with an emphasis on
the wheat. I get a blueberry character on the finish of the sip. Moderate
carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Some peach and blackberry on the nose. Good
smelling beer. 78/100.

Poured from fridge temp. Pours a murky golden yellow with good carbonation (inch of head from slow pour). Nose is not overpowering. I get mostly lemon and orange. Not much hops. Crisp. Taste is interesting. Refreshing. Not hoppy. Almost a bit sweet, but then a slight bitterness on the end. Vanilla, lemon. Very smooth. Overall, a good beer for the style.

“Hear my cries through the mist, gentle sailor,
That your skiff may be tethered unto.
Though the moonlight is pale, and I paler,
In the black river, brack with my tears,
Let my song reach your ears,
Let me reach my availer,
That tomorrow the cries are for you.”
Appearance: Pours a cloudy-haze lemon drop yellow with hints of slightly more golden-amber hues. Tops up with a foamy finger of head with a moderate dissipation leaves a decent surface lace and small tendrils of foam that stick a bit to the sides.
Aromatics: Fluffy yeasty breads and brined lemon come first followed by the subtle spice of the coriander and some soft florals all of which roll in the nostrils nicely.
Taste: The saltiness is actually quite subdued I was expecting it to stand out a bit more but it is actually integrated very nicely it is the first thing you get on the palate but it is not actually “salty”. Some lemony zing mixed with wheat in the middle, and tapers off into a nondescript biscuity flavour.
Mouth: Pretty solid smooth middleweight, carbonation doesn’t play too large a roll as it sits. There is a really tangy and tartness that doesn’t quite approach sour, and it has a fairly abrupt finish with not much left in the linger except a little bit of a raised dough like texture.
Overall: My first Gose, had to read a bit about the style first before I gave it a go. It is a great drinking beer. And the sea salt makes for a very interesting dynamic between the flavours and mouthfeel. I can definitely say I haven’t had anything quite like it before, and look forward to trying the other two Goses I picked up recently to see how they compare.
Pairing: Given that the salty character is probably the key to pairing here, you are looking for something in the starches and/or something with a little fat to it… (a little tangy would be great too) So maybe try classic Chicago style baked pork and beans served in a bread bowl. A good alternative would be a bacon poutine.
