This is probably as close in taste and style to an old school IPA from Europe that I will ever have. This does not compare or compete with the new hybrid styles of IPA. However, it is made with love and it definitely does not disappoint.

Rich dark amber color with a fine froth in the Gulpener tulip. Tasty, biscuity and just a tang of sweetness. Malty but lighter bodied. IBUs rated at 45. Not to be confused with their English Pale Ale.
Roasted grain, a touch of caramel, and a bitterish burn of hops. Probably hoppier than the actual modern English style, but a great example of showcasing hops in a way more restrained manner than the American IPAs. Some flowery and piney hop aromatics with a mineral tang. Long nutty and bitterish aftertaste with a hint of walnuts. some sharp notes and a touch of sugar.
Chuckanut again proves its prowess with these more subtle European styles. So drinkable it's hard to stop sipping long enough to write a few notes. From the 500 ml bottle purchased at the brewery restaurant in Bellingham.
