Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a clear glass mug. No freshness date. Single purchased at Ancona's (Ridgefield, CT) for $1.89.
A: Decidedly copper with short-lived, off-white head with a decent dose of intricate lacing around the top of the mug.
S: Tea-like and splits the difference between English IPA and APA with herbal hops leading the the way and giving way to a complex maltiness with a lot of breadiness.
T: The flavor is by no means bad, but it doesn't fit the American IPA style well at all, and instead would fit in the WInter Warmer or APA style better. The flavor is very malty with bready, light caramel, and biscuit tones meeting with a mix of orange and lemon citrus and tea-like herbal hops. The tea-like qualities win out, and I think this beer would fit more in the English IPA.
M: Easy drinking with medium-body and low-moderate carbonation.
O: Not really an American IPA -- fits the English persuasion just fine with a complex maltiness and herbal, tea-like hoppy finish.

Dark amber, hazy. Scarce foam, one finger, brown in color.
Resinous hop in the smell, then earthly and slightrly citric. Then the balancing maltiness.
Ùmalt and caramel, a light toasted taste. Then a good, full hoppiness.
Hopped aftertate, bitter nd earthly, and piney. Quite long.
Pleasant, easy to drink, with some english note, for an american IPA.

I really enjoy this relatively inexpensive IPA. Most of the time I only sit down and drink one IPA; this one generally entices me to have a second. An added plus is the great restaurant and brewery. If you get to Lake Placid it is a must.
