This beer pours a clear, dark copper with thin head and lace that lasts. The aroma is of roasted malt with hints of nuts, and spices. The flavor is complex with ginger, root beer barrel, and toast with molasses in the finish. A soothing warmth shows through as it warms. It's mouthfeel is light-medium. Lake Placid Winter Lager is a good beer, perfect on a chilly fall evening, and very drinkable. Recommended!

Out of a bottle this beer was clear, copper color with ruby highlights. The head was two fingers of beige foam that left lacing in scattered spots and the retention was as a thin collar. The aroma was only so-so I thought, semi-sweet notes of nuts, sweet breads and dry malt. The flavors were better with the same sweet breads and nuts as well as toasted malt, yeast, light figs and a dry, bitter finish. The mouthfeel was average, the body medium and the carbonation appropriate.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brownish auburn color with ruby hues and a thin layer of head. Some lacing. Aromas of booze, caramel, malts, brown sugar and grains. Taste is more of the same. Boozey brown sugar and caramel malts. Hints of chocolate. A bit bready. This beer is obviously old but I saw it at my local beer store for $3.99 a six pack and couldn't pass it up. And I'm glad I grabbed it. Pretty decent beer that age hasn't seemed to harm very much. Overall, it's a good enough beer for what I paid but I probably won't be paying full price for it this upcoming Winter.

A: Pours a purpleish amber color with a light white head that fades quickly and leaves some lacing.

S: Smells slightly of barely and yeast maybe. No overly hoppy or fruity notes.

T: Surprisingly nice flavor balance. Starts with malty hoppy notes then fades into a sweeter darker flavor. Maybe some background notes of fruit or some sweet spices.

M: Pretty good amount of chew to it. I wasn't disappointed.

Overall: Overall the beer was pretty good. It had a nice complex flavor that balanced well. The beer could have used some more distinct aromas but overall it was enjoyable. I'd recommend this beer to most beer drinkers.

Sidenote: I'm surprised this beer only has 12 reviews all from pretty far north. Glad I was able to get one of these in a case from PA.

Served in a chilled glass.

Appearance - beer pours a clear auburn colour with an off-white head. the head doesnt last long however does leave some good lacing. I can see some carbonation in the glass.

Smell - i can pick up some malts, deep caramel/toffee like smells. there is a slight hint of some raisin nodes as well.

taste - this is a very dry beer, it comes through with some malt and caramel taste. I found there to be some metallic taste near the end, which made it dry.

mouthfeel - good levels of carbonation make the toffee some fwd and a little more bitterness. i found the dryness left too.

drinkability - glad i tried it, would not rate it high or anywhere near a top beer.

A stunning and brilliantly clear ruby brown lager poured from the bottle into a pint glass. The clarity and color make this beer super inviting. The aroma is caramel, burnt sugar, mission fig and some sherry too. If this beer tastes half as good as it looks and smells, its a winner in my book.

The first flavor i initially experienced were soapy, piney hops which i wasn't expecting based on the smell. A few sips later the flavor starts to shift more towards the malt. I'm half way through and it is warming up nicely. Strangely, for a lager, it reminds me of a dubbel with slightly more hop presence; it's very fruity for a lager, especially dried fruit with the fig and raisin notes. The hops are pretty well balanced and i think i detect some perle hops. Could be, the bottle says its brewed with German and American hops. Ah, okay, this is supposed to be a bock. The flavor profile make much more sense now. Did i mention how lovely this beer looks?

The mouth feel is just right for this beer. Deceptive for what one expects from a lager but overall great for this time of year, especially if you are looking for a full flavored yet medium bodied beer. Felt like i was missing a little warmth, especially what one would expect from a bock...ah, there it is, hiding in the last few, room temp. sips. Enjoyed this one, would drink it again, but not more than one at a time.

A: Poured from the bottle into a pilsner glass. Body is dark reddish-amber with a 1/2-finger khaki head on top. Leaves behind nice sheets of lace.

S: First impression is cereal grains, but there's also some caramel malt and toffee-like sweetness.

T: Toasted bread, husky grain and some caramel malt sweetness. Finishes with a slight metallic bitterness; doesn't come off dry, however, as there's a lingering sweetness that seems almost fruity at times in the aftertaste. Still, it's not cloying at all. Warmth from the 6.5% ABV is felt in the belly after a couple sips.

M: Body is light in heft, carbonation is fine, creating an all-around smooth feel.

D: Very good. A nice, flavorful but (relatively)light beer that makes for a nice winter or early spring seasonal.

A - Pours a fairly clear reddish-brown color with a finger of frothy off-white head. The head has good retention and laces well.

S - Aroma has lots of sweet lightly-roasted carmel malts. There is also some dark fruit (raisins) and just a hint of booze blending in.

T - Starts with a blend of the sweet carmel malts, dark fruit, and a touch of hops in the background. The dark fruit taste becomes a bit stronger through the middle. The finish has a blend of the dark fruit and the malts with just a touch of booze taste noticeable. The dark fruit sweetness lingers nicely.

M - Medium-light bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Feels creamy overall, and very smooth. The finish leaves a bit of a syrupy feeling on the tongue.

D - Very drinkable. The flavors are fairly well balanced and mingle nicely. The overall mouthfeel is a little bit light, but still super smooth and crisp overall.

Amber colored beer with a slowly fading head.Aroma is malty.Taste is candied sugar and caramel malts.Tastes like a liquid lifesaver.Overall a relatively tasty and smooth beer that is pretty enjoyable, although the sweetness would probably prevent you from drinking too many at one sitting.I would recommend and purchase again.

12oz Bottle

Appearance - The beer pours a slightly hazy reddish brown colour with a large size frothy beige coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some really nice lacing on the sides of the glass. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it began to dissipate.

Smell - malts, hops, cloves, raisins, hay/straw, cookies

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an average amount of carbonation and it feels somewhat creamy on the tongue. It has a lot of malt taste mixed with notes of hops and dark fruit. There are also notes of cloves and a cookie like sweetness. It finishes with a really pleasing sweet malty aftertaste.

Drink - This beer caught me by surprise, it was really tasty. I only purchased one bottle but I found myself not wanting my glass to end. It has a nice mixed bag of flavours and was highly drinkable. It's worth trying if you happen to see it at the store.

12oz. bottle: This one pours a clear, coppery color. There was very little off-white head on it. What was there didn't linger long nor leave hardly any lacing at all. The aroma is a bit sweet. Mainly caramel malt and toffee, with a hint of raisin and maybe some other dark fruits thrown in. Nice malty taste. Just a bit sweet, with no real evidence of any hops at all, although I'm sure there were a ton of them in there to get the balance that they achieved. Slight toastiness in the finish. There don't seem to be any of the spices that many others put in their winter beers. A good solid drinker.

A_Pours a fairly dark brown but with enough light to flow through which shows off the ruby hue. The head is small and there is zero lacing. Not that attractive of a beer

S_Aroma is of sweet malt and a slight alcohol burn.

T_Sweet malts come at the palate with a good deal of mineral carbonated flavour. Not entirely complex but definitely drinkable

M_Light for the style but very refreshing with a nice level of carbonation.

D_Kind of a mixed bag. An enjoyable brew but there are some flaws.

Pours almost ruby red with a thick pale head that dissipates fairly quickly. Sugar, caramel, and malt makes for a sweet gravy sauce smell. Tomato is descernible. Taste is sweet and caramely, almost like an off-brand tomato ketchup. Mouthfeel is velvety smooth with some chewiness at the end. Decent but not overpowering carbonation. Alcohol is barely noticeable. Very sessionable.

The beer pours a dark amber/brown color with a thick frothy off-white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is great. It has a dry, roasted malt scent along with a touch of caramel sweetness. The taste is good. It has a smooth, roasted and crystal malt flavor; dry with a light to mild caramel sweetness. It goes down easy with a crisp, lager yeast dryness. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a well balanced beer. It's delicious and easy drinking; a wonderful winter seasonal.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Part of a mixed 6 pack from Marketplace Wine and Spirits in Central Jersey

Pours a very dark ruby red, nearly brown. One finger of sticky foam coats the glass. Very nice looking. Aroma is dark crystal malts, plum, slight raisin aroma.

First sip is... thick, chewy, sweet, nice! I wish it said bock on the label - more appealing than winter lager. Either way this is a nice mini-malt bomb. Body is thick, mouthfeel chewy, and alcohol is nicely hidden. A nice find!

Pours a garnet red color with a one-finger head into my glass. I love the color and it's usually a good sign.

The aroma is full of grainy malt with toffee standing out as one of the perceived flavors.

Very subtle with toffee, lightly toasted malt and just a kiss of hops to greet the taste buds.

Mouthfeel is subtle as well and basically, the flavors disappear without leaving any aftertaste.

This is certainly an enjoyable winter lager. I imagine that it would be excellent straight from a tap on a cold, blustery day.
