Style: Milk / Sweet Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.90%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is our version of a milk stout, originally named Fresh Powder Milk Stout. A milk stout is simply a stout brewed with an addition of Lactose, a non-fermentable milk sugar, used to create sweetness and a fuller body and mouthfeel in the beer. This is the sweetest stout that we brew, not only because of the addition of lactose, but because of the low hop bitterness, and higher residual sugar content. It is very full bodied beer, often perceived as thick and creamy.

The nose on this beer lends to a roasty, chocolaty, and nutty character. It's a medium to almost full body beer with a rich black color and clear with a dense tan color head. Like it's aroma, the flavor has notes of chocolate, roasty, and nutty, with a very subtle sweetness towards the finish. It finishes drier than I generally would like for a milk stout. It has a moderate to high carbonation, little to no creaminess, and has a bit of an astringency. It's a decent, drinkable milk stout. I prefer milk stouts to have a creamier mouthfeel with a little less carbonation.
