this place is located smack dab in the shopping/trinkety area of lake placid. up on a hill with nice views of the olympic stadium (right across the street in fact) and the skyline-defining high jumps built for the games. the place itself is a ski-lodgey dark wood building with churchy pointed picture windows, adjacent to a dirt parking lot. entering through the side door brings you around some tight, twisty narrow halls and stairways up to the main bar/dining area. the bar is a large wooden beast with three sides and many uncomfortable wood-backed stools. tables and chairs full the rest of the u-shaped room, which holds many sports related items and other ski type memorabilia. like the shed, but a little less cramped. there is also a nice outdoor porch for nicer weather.

there were five or six beers on tap including maibock, pale ale, lager, hoppy pale ale, oatmeal stout and ubu. all beers were of above-average quality, with the frostbite being the only wow! standout with its pac-nw hoppy resinous blast of flavor. ubu is a good, strong beer for a flagship as well, clocking in at a dark, dark 7%. also available now on nitro and as a black/tan. a growler cooler is across from the bar with six packs as well to take out.

pricewise, i dunno. 10oz maibock pours for pint prices? seemed a tad steep.

the bartender seemed very friendly but not too knowledgable about the beers. he was happy to get the brewer for me, a jolly guy who was more than happy to talk up a storm about his little operation in lake placid.

had some buffet-style food, but as it's not the usual fare, i'd be best not to review it. suffice it to say, don't go here for any buffet events because whatever food they have catering access to stinks.

overall an enjoyable place to hang out with friends but not quite the destination, especially if you have the capability to enjoy these beers in your own home or at a local pub with a bit more oomph. all the folks around said great adirondack is the better experience in town, and i probably should have pushed harder for that second stop in town.

This place is about what you would expect if you've been to a few breweries in the Adirondacks. The location is just a few minutes walk from the Main Street of Lake Placid, and the building is an old house/church/ whatever that looks neater on the outside than it is on the inside. The second floor dining room that we ate in was decorated with pennants from every college sports team you could imagine, which really doesn't do much for me but whatever. The beer selection was limited to about six house brews that ranged from mediocre to actively bad. The food was ok but not much more than that. Worth a visit if you are looking to tick some local beers, but I wouldn't eat here again, and if you just want to drink a good beer you may want to look elsewhere.

It gets packed but for obvious reasons. Good eats and brews. Try going early otherwise you're going to have to wait.
