So I can either attempt to navigate the detours and double back to whatever that one road was that runs in and out of town, or continue on with the lake to the right of me, round and around and back out to where I started. The latter affords me the opportunity to visit the other brewpub in town so it's really a no brainer, although I am freezing my ass off on this lake on a mountain. I've had some of their beers out and about but have never been to their house and I have to admit that I'm really kind of curious about the goings on there, having read some of the reviews interestingly describing the differences in the upstairs and downstairs scenes. Um, yeah...

A whole lot of available parking out on the lake ring road and looking both ways before crossing, I headed up to the ski chalet but not really looking joint, and found the immediate crossroads upon entering. Door to the downstairs bar off to the left or brewpub up the stairs past the large arch stained glass window; I'll start up top and work my way down. 10 seat "U" shaped bar in the center of the room, with a strange little nook where both ends meet the inside wall, booze tiered 5 high there below displayed trophies for I don't know what. On one side of the room, a large stone fireplace on the wall, with strung white Xmas lighting in spruce across the mantle. Big glass wall forward facing the lake gives you access to the outdoor deck, holding a half dozen plastic tables. Good light, windows to both ends of the room and spots and tracks to the front. Yellow painted walls with old Lake Placid posters and vintage tourist ads on one side, and school pennants and beer awards (Hudson Valley Beer & Food and TAP NY '03 & '05) on the other. Ceramic mug club mugs dangle above the bar and there's a raised ceiling area directly above the bar lined on the inside with old beer bottles (Is that an old Catamount I see?) below more school pennants. A single TV sits above the bar and there's another one in the rear corner. A dozen + tables throughout, including some raised bar tables to the rear near the viewable brew room; fermenters and at least 1 wood lined kettle.

6 taps on a single tower on one side of the bar. The sampler of 6 (4 regulars and 2 seasonals) served in a round cut tree section, a flat piece about 1" thick with holes for the sampler glasses, pretty cool. The Moose Island Ale, light, golden, low bitterness; the 46er IPA, copper color, good hop bite; the Ubu Ale, an English strong ale, a deep red pour, warming, very nice; the Frostbite Ale, an APA at 6.8%, nice hoppiness; the Belgian Wit, Chouffe yeast, coriander nose, came in over 5%, the Maibock had an excellent malt backbone, nice, sweet, in at 8.1%. The Ubu Ale and the Maibock were the two I liked the most.

Finished my sampler and took the rear staircase near the brewroom downstairs to see what was what. There's something of a local hang here, the bar used to be called PJ's or maybe it still is, in any event, it was here long before the brewpub and it ain't going away. They've got the same 6 tap tower as upstairs but I didn't see a single pint glass, rather a whole lot of bottled crappy macros on the bar. I walked through and out rather quickly. Sure, they've got pool, darts & foosball, but they ain't drinkin' the goods down here.

Ski lodge meets sports bar. Upstairs, good, downstairs, not so much.

This place is about what you would expect if you've been to a few breweries in the Adirondacks. The location is just a few minutes walk from the Main Street of Lake Placid, and the building is an old house/church/ whatever that looks neater on the outside than it is on the inside. The second floor dining room that we ate in was decorated with pennants from every college sports team you could imagine, which really doesn't do much for me but whatever. The beer selection was limited to about six house brews that ranged from mediocre to actively bad. The food was ok but not much more than that. Worth a visit if you are looking to tick some local beers, but I wouldn't eat here again, and if you just want to drink a good beer you may want to look elsewhere.

It gets packed but for obvious reasons. Good eats and brews. Try going early otherwise you're going to have to wait.
