We go earlier in the evening, between the lunch and dinner crowd, and well before the party crowd. It's a good time to go just to sit and enjoy some of the very high quality beers they have to choose from.

Service was a joke. Waited several minutes before anyone spoke with us at all. We tried to order a bunch of different beers, all were out of stock. Nothing special here. We didn't eat.

We were traveling to Staunton, Virginia, from New York City and I chose Winchester as a our first stop. Nice town, old downtown, lots of restaurants and bars... plus there was a wine festival (Blossom Wine Fest) going on and the place was buzzing (literally!). While the wife shopped for beads next door, I stopped at Union Jack. Busy little pub on the main drag. Crowded and lots of drunks, but still managed to find a spot at the bar.

37+ taps on a chalkboard menu: Stone RIS, Chimay, Bluegrass Bourbon Stout, Moylan's Hopside, Green Flash Black IPA, Hebrew Rejewvenator, Local Option Blood King, Epic Brainless... not too shabby!

Nice bartender who comped my Bluegrass Bourbon Stout because I didn't dig it, and good prices. Didn't try food as we were on our way to a fancy restaurant down in Staunton, but the chef was bringing fish and chips and other pub treats...

If you're in Winchester, this is the place for craft beer. Definitely a good stop.

New to the area and popped in for a bite and brew. It was early afternoon, so the place was not busy, which allowed me to take in and enjoy the atmosphere. Storied place, situated in historic downtown area, and used to be a bank I believe.

Beer: at first glance I was astounded at all the taps. This is a "small" town so I was prepared for an 8-10 tap offering, if that. There must be 30+ on tap which totally adds to the atmosphere by allowing perusal and noting what one has had before, is going to order, or put on the list for a try in the future. Bottles are just as plentiful, if not more so than the taps, and adds a whole new dimension to the atmosphere, the beer menu reads like a book. Additionally, there is beer to go and they offer various glassware and other beer related items. Bar staff seems adequately versed in the trade, no complaints there.

Food: we moved from Texas, a hard place to find good fish and chips, and I was born and raised in New England so I know good fish and chips. I didn't waste time on the food menu and ordered it. I was not disappointed, two thumbs up. Unfortunately, I haven't tried any of their other food offerings, I'll order the fish and chips every time. Service was average, put it this way, we didn't walk out complaining about it or singing it praises.

All in all, very satisfied to have happened upon this place and will certainly be calling in them in the future.

Great service, knowledgeable bar staff and quite the selection for a bar in this area. I've recently moved back to the East Coast, from Beer Mecca Northern California and have been struggling to find a watering hole with anything worth drinking in this Big-3 inundated area. Happy to find this place.

$$ because for the selection they have, in a bar environment it is reasonably priced. Also $$ because they cater to the college student (Lion's Head, PBR etc.), Winchester being a University town and all. You would be shocked at your bill if you didn't know what you were getting into with some of their nicer selections, but that comes with the territory.

Great Bottle selection as well as a Draught list that is a good read. Enjoyed a few Arrogant Bastards, as well as the Southampton "Cuvee de Fleurs", apart of the 750 series. Recommended.

I was very impressed with the beer selection at this English Pub. I went into Union Jack's looking for dinner not even thinking about beer, and I came to find out that their beer selection was incredible. The waitstaff was very friendly, and the food was great as well. If you go there for dinner, I would recommend trying the pub steak. The prices were a bit high, as I paid $13.00 for a Wells Banana Bread beer. A friend of mine had a Delirium Tremens and an Arrogant Bastard. Overall it was a positive experience with good beer, but just a bit pricy.

Visited on July 6, 2009:

I must say, that I did not expect to find such a good place in Winchester. The place is still pretty much as the other reviewer described. Not really sure that they got the feel of a British pub, but this does not really detract from the place at all. The vibe of the place was pretty good for a Monday night...the place was pretty full, especially the patio and the bar. Good 60's music playing in the background.

The service was good, pretty attentive, but lacked any real beer knowledge. The bartender tried to give me a frosted glass and did not pour my beer, I was drinking a Dogfish Head Red & White, 750ml bottle ($25). It looked like they had 20 taps or so with a very nice, wide selection of bottles covering many different breweries and styles. Not sure that they had anything that I have not seen at other places, but certainly had some stuff that I had never tried. Also, they did have six-packs to go as well as growlers. Not sure on the pricing as I did not partake.

The food was maybe slightly above average, but good. Overall, from what I have read and word of mouth, this is the best beer place in Winchester. Honestly, it would not be too bad as a corner pub anywhere. This is the place to go if you find yourself in Winchester.

This place was less than a week old when I visited it for the first time so I really had no idea what to expect. It's a very nice British style pub and restaurant, not very big, probably seating 80-100 people including the bar on the most busy of nights. The beer selection was decent with brands such as Delirium, Kasteel, Dogfish Head, St. George, Victory, and Bells. So they have a nice mix of beers from around the U.S. and Europe. If you like British beer they definitely have a lot of styles. The food was very good with lunches between $6-10 and dinners starting at $12. The service on the other hand, pretty crappy if I must admit...they seemed to be under staffed and confused, took about 8 minutes to get my beer. Might be due to the recent opening and hopefully they'll get it turned around. Would recommend to pop in for a drink or two and a nice lunch but would probably avoid the dinner time until the become more efficient in their serving.
