Poured into a Firestone Walker snifter. Pours a dark mahogany brown with a thin light brown head that dissipates quickly to light patches, leaving no lacing. Aroma of caramel malt and dark dried fruit, reminiscent of an English barleywine; a hint of woodiness. Flavor is caramel malt with distinct toffee notes, buttered rum, mild dark dried fruit and molasses; finishes with a mild bitterness, hints of oak and lingering buttered rum. Not much pumpkin flavor, although the there are hints if I look for it. An interesting rum barreled ale, closest in profile to a light English barleywine, but not much fresh pumpkin flavor. I enjoyed it, but would choose something else if I was looking for a pumpkin ale. Certainly pleasantly quaffable.

Pours a very dark orangish brown. Nose is reluctant and reserved Getting a light woodiness, maybe some grapes. Initial sip reveals a soapy sweetness and leaves a dry after-taste of mild rum. Carbonation is light, maybe a bit more like a wine. As it warms the nose opens to a pumpkin spice, but very soft and subtle. Now it's getting more buttery and creamy. The wood is much nicer and more pleasant and the spices are coming out. The barrel influences, as well as the pumpkin is much more subtle than other beers that are similar. Let this warm and sip on it for best results, but remember it's no pumpkin bomb.

2014 vintage.

Pours an almost opaque super dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, toffee, candied fruit, rum, wood, and slight spice aromas. Taste is much the same with candied fruit, caramel, molasses, and rum flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is decent, but I am not getting any real pumpkin qualities and the flavors are a bit watery in my opinion.

Serving type: bottle.
