Pours dark garnet and opaque. I'd call it muddy. Aroma is malt, and a weird caramel toffee twang to it. Not quite raisin, but a sour sweetness. Hey, it's a barleywine. Going to announce it clearly.

Taste is a rather 'bright" maltiness. Sweet raisin mixed with a chocolate creaminess. Bourbon, oak, full body segueing into a slight bitter hoppiness. Slight tobacco, roast, and all this not at all astringent. It's boozy, without being particularly hot.

A whole handful of everything. Generally well balanced, teasing a cloying malt sweetness without turning this into an earthy or bitter mess.

So hey, what's your price point? You could do worse, you could do better. Nothing going wrong here but also, nothing going insanely right.

On tap at Newhall Refinery in Newhall, CA.

Pours a hazy dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of caramel, toffee, earth, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, grapefruit juice, earth, and brown sugar flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop and earth bitterness and an alcohol kick on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is very citrus zest and earth forward, and has a fairly assertive bitterness that lowers its drinkability to me.

Serving type: on tap.

Poured an auburn, caramel, murky color with two fingers of khaki tan, fizzy head. Average amount of uneven, foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Good retention. (Sight - 3.75)

Smelled caramel, toffee, sweetened iced tea, earthy rye, dark fruits, leathery tobacco, figs, dates, brown sugar and spoiled Citra rind. (Smell - 3.50)

Tasted similar to the nose, maybe slightly better. Got chewy caramel, buttered toffee, figs, brown sugar, dates, dark fruits, tobacco, earthy rye, toasted biscuit, pine, soap, unknown hops, faint molasses and spoiled Citra. Could definitely taste the alcohol. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium-to-full body. Chewy, slick texture. Lively carbonation. Long, astringent finish. (Feel - 3.50)

This was just an OK version of an American Barleywine. Maybe it will grow on me a bit as it warms. (Overall - 3.50)

Dark golden brown with a thick khaki head that snuck out early, leaving a thin film on top and a curtain of lacing.
Fair amount of spicy citrus on the nose and palate. Earthy caramel toffee makes its way in there.
A bit less than medium carbonation. A bit more than medium mouthfeel. Slightly bitter boozy finish.
Maybe a little too hoppy for the style IMO, but not too bad nonetheless.
