Pours an opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, toffee, nut, and slight smoke aromas. Taste is much the same with caramel, toffee, brown sugar, earth, and slight smoke flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of earth bitterness and an alcohol kick on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that mentions how the brewery smoked the malt in-house using a variety of woods, but the smoke qualities that I am getting are very subtle all around.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into snifter.

A: Pours a deep chestnut brown with two finger dense light tan head that lasted a couple minutes and leaves some nice lacing.

S: Very light smoke mixed with burnt sugar, toffee, and dark fruits. Dates and raisins.

T: Caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and dark fruits. Some light peat flavors with an almost tobacco quality to it.

M: Medium to full body. Bigger carbonation that I was expecting with a big whoosh when I popped the top and the best head retention I've ever seen from a 11.5% ABV brew.

O: Tasty brew and dangerously drinkable. Not really picking up on much smoke, but enjoyable non the less.

I have been impressed by the big beers produced by this brewery. Its anniversary Rye Wine , bourbon barrel aged was right up my alley.Tasted like a good barley wine from FiftyFifty or FW.

Oak Smoker is a malty tangy treat that seems more English barley wine but still is very tasty. I DO NOt like overly smoky beer, and the smoke here lingers in the background as a flavor to compliment to the malt sweetness. A bit of spice hits the nose, but the smoke is ghostly, wafting in and out. Like the finest Rauchbiers, it is balance that defines rather than overt, brash smokiness .

Full bodied, refined and a definite sipper due to the viscosity. A newer brewery with very good technique. Recommended. A new bourbon barrel version is out and I ordered 2. We can't get this in Rural Upstate NY,where the snow is deep and the women are big. The cows are clean and the corn is high. We enjoy a good scotch ale as much a warm ewe on a cold night.
