Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.40%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
To create a bready malt backbone with a dry finish, we start this award winning pale ale with 2-row, Vienna, and Rye malts. This accentuates the Centennial and Citra hops added during the boil. The combination leaves you with enticing aromas of lychee, gooseberry, and passion-fruit. Our Citra Rye Pale Ale is balanced, crisp, and leaves your palate begging for more.

This thang, yeah... how about that? Kind of like when this one hottie said that Raul looked like Emile Hersche - yeah, I'll take it. I may not really be close in looks to said "heartthrob," but, ya know... Citra Rye by Joseph James on the other hand reminds Raul of Pliny. More like Pliny-lite, but it's good territory to be in.

Bitter, a bit crisp, clean like a Sunday wash...

Raul approved.

Rye, Fruity, Hoppy, Balanced

Citra Rye pours honey colored from the can with some solid lacing. Nose is full of spicy rye, stone fruitiness and earthiness. Medium-bodied. Flavors run semi-sweet, fruity and juicy with rye breadiness, more spice, some orangey notes, mild zest, hints of pine and an earthy, dry and crackery finish. Flavors play very well here. Bold, but balanced, and very drinkable.

As reviewed in BeerAdvocate magazine #109 (February 2016).

Cool beer. Light and dry with the rye spice kicking up in the finish. The Citra shines early with a floral nose and melon and berries rolling into the citrus of the flavor. Very drinkable. I'd have another.

Gold to amber in color, nice haze, really nice thick head with lots of lacing. Inviting scents of pineapple, orange-peel, grapefruit and violet. Smooth, balanced taste with hints of grapefruit, pineapple, peach and a finish of freshly-turned dirt. Feel is light, very light coating finish. Good beer to pound.

Very dry pale ale backed by nice refreshing citra hops. Really packs more flavor and bold taste than most light ales and the rye makes a difference. I also like how the beer comes in a can and can be taken on explorations with me in Colorado. Looking forward to drinking more during Spring time.
