Pretty standard amber-gold colour, with a thin ring of white. Minimal carbonation and a vague hint of floaties that should probably be contributing a haze, but they're just floating there in clumps.

Unsurprisingly, the nose is predominantly banana - but an almost artificial banana character, like banana lollies. A bit of brown-sugar sweetness as well. It smells artificial and chemicalised. Far too overpowering.

A vaguely cidery base on the palate, layered with sickly sweet banana character, and a vague lambic sourness. It tastes almost nothing like beer - even the most fruity lambics I've had in the past had a vague malty resemblance. Mouthfeel is clean and fresh, at least.

Eh. It's sickly and pretty unpleasant to finish. It's unique, but there's probably a reason why there are so few banana flavoured beers out there...

Beer bottle (33cl), tasted in 2001
Appearance: clear colour, white foam not persistant
Smell: banana nose
Taste and mouthfeel: in the mouth an acid taste, sweet is quickly replaced by the aroma of banana omnipresent
Drinkability : a very average lambic

Ok, reflect with me now. you can handle a beer that tastes like cherry, that's alright for a kriek for example. But do you really want a beer that's gonna have a banana flavour? they're not that good on their own, so they're bound to rather spoil the beer than be enhanced by it. the bad stuff is always dominant in a mixture.

The pour is oh-so unexciting if you expect somthing bright and original to pop out of this 'chapeau'. Lager like appearance in terms of the translucid straw colour, but the headlessness makes you rather think about some sort of soft drink...

...And so does the smell (and taste). Unexcitingly scented in what I'd rather say seemed like an artificial fashion (even if it's probably untrue), with an evident banana scent negatively mixed with hops and malt- yuck. The taste, although not bad for one of those fruit soft drinks, certainly drives the whole sense of 'beer' away from its careless sweetness and rather excessive carbonation, proper for a coca-cola sort of competition.

Get this one away from my face now.

Poured from the 12oz corked bottle into a Lindeman's lambic flute. Aroma of ripe bananas is overwhelming as soon as the cork comes out, developing only a slight musty character as it warms. Body is a deep, syrupy golden color with very little head or carbonation. Palate is cloyingly sweet - ripe bananas and simple syrup, with only a very slight earthy character. Finish is thick and a bit sticky. Overall, this is difficult to drink and just not a very good offering.

Fairly clear amber color, good initial head, though it falls quickly. Aroma is very banana-ish, no lambic-specific tartness detectable. On first taste... Banana flavor hits you smack in the face like a sack of, er, bananas. Overwhelming, very sweet, bananas. Only slightly acidic, with lambic character not much in evidence. Nice amount of carbonation, with a light, tingly mouthfeel.

I'm a huge fan of lambics, but this beer holds none of the delights that draw me toward the style. Bleagh, not recommended unless you're crazy about banana.

Poured into a glass, it has an appealing caramel color and no head, just a few white bubbles on top.

It smelled unpleasantly chemical to my nose--very artificial banana flavoring--and that's also what I got from the taste. Weirdly artificial, tangy, metallic, almost a waxy mouthfeel.

I'm generally a fan of the lambic style, but this was not a good example of that style to my tongue. Wouldn't drink again.

Okay for what it is - a summer patio beer spritzer. Completely ginger ale-like in its manner from its appearance to its mouthfeel. Candy-like banana nose, sweet soda pop tatse and mouthfeel. Just a short bottle, but becomes cloyingly sweet as you go. Girly-beer.

I've been sitting on a bunch of reviews, waiting to drink something really cool to put in for my 400th on BA. However, since it hasn't happened in the last few weeks and I'm racking up the untyped reviews, I decided to go ahead and review something really crappy and weird for my 400th instead. So here it is - #400!

Purchased a 250mL bottle of this odd little beer from the LCBO. Poured an ugly, muddy brown into a white wine glass - reminds me of rotten fruit, which is not a good thing for a fruit beer. Decent-sized white head, and lots of lacing. Aroma is mild banana, some bubblegum or other artificial sugary flavours, and a hint of sourness. The sourness comes out a lot more in the flavour, "balanced" by icky medicinal banana flavours and overripe fruits. Above-average carbonation and fairly light body. Sugary sweet candy aftertaste. I finished this, but just barely - would not buy again.

LCBO bottle tasting-Pours sparkling light yellow with a thin fizzy white head that diminishes quickly. Funky banana aroma, barnyard, mixed tropical fruits and a touch of yeast. The flavour profile is pretty sweet banana, with some other fruity components, sugary syrup, yeasty funk and a touch of hoppy sharpness. FInishes fizzy and acidic, sweet as hell. One per week is my max.

375ml corked and capped bottle (i hate that) picked up as an impulse buy. drank out of my duvel tulip.

A- this beer pours out a bright yellow colored body with a finger and a half of bright white head. the head fades fast and leaves behind small spots of lacing.

S- as expected, this smells strongly of banana. a very weird odor to be coming out of a glass of beer. very sweet smelling. a slightly earthy scent as well.

T- overly sweet and somehow artificial tasting banana, and lots of it. think banana popsicle. very lightly tart. slight earthy funk.

M- light bodied with a high level of carbonation.

D- i wont be picking this up again. more of a novelty than anything. i guess check it out if you LOVE bananas.

Clear yeller with a bubbly white cap. Fair retention for a lambic. You don't see banana lambics around these parts too often.

Smells like banana runts and off-putting wet paint. Sweeter than I anticipated. Really, really, really sweet overripe bananas. More lambic-y funk or sour to combat the excessive sweetness is in order.

When I bought this I figured it would be either really good or really bad. I'm leaning towards the latter but I had to try it.

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Clear golden body. No head.

Smell - Amazingly, it smells skunked. It has the aroma of an imported European pilsner. And some banana.

Taste - Tastes more like banana. Not sour. Quite sweet, in fact. Still has that stale pilsner tastes to it, but much lighter.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Overly sweet.

Overall - Not good.

"Ingredients: Beer, bananas, sugar, flavor".

I wish they were more specific about 'flavor'. Artificial flavor? Natural flavor?

Anyways, this plambic pours a pale light copper with a frothy smallish head and a few streaks of lace. The aroma is full of sweet banana flavor extract with a banana bread feel. Some green banana notes are also noticeable. The taste follows suit with lots of banana flavors, though not really natural tasting. The finish has some Runt candy flavor (the banana ones of course) and a slight ascerbic acid tartness. The mouthfeel is not light, it has a coating sweetness.

This is pretty much an alcopop. It lacks pretty much any beer or lambic flavor, except for a faint tatness. Pass.

Purchased single bottle for $6.95 from tiny liquor store at corner of Devonshiire and State.

Appearance = clear, bubbily, highly carbonated golden peach. big white fluffy head that dissipates quickly.

Smell = Pure shot of overpowering banana with some sweetness added in. Can't really smell much else. It smells exactly like banana bread with a tinge of sourness.

Taste = First an explosion of sweetness with a massive overdose of banana. Then an overwhelming bread like, grain like aftertaste. I think the analogy of drinking banana bread is nearly perfect.

Overall = I'm not a huge lambic fan but I do love bananas. I think this is an interesting beer to sample a bit of, but I would not want to drink more than one. It's much too sweet for my tastes and the strong yeast like aftertaste can get annoying. I did enjoy the strong banana flavor though. Mildly recommended for lambic fans.

The nose feels a bit like banana compote of fruit with a slight hint of strawberry. Very sweet, very sweet and bubbly, beer has a strong flavor of the banana in the taste of beer being present. And although the finish is slightly bitter, like the banana peel and the taste of banana blends rather well, the beer is nevertheless aimed at a market of young consumers.

Chapeau Banana lambic pours out with
minimal head over a golden brew with
considerable suspended chunks. The nose
is sour and vinous and of oak. The flavor is
slightly sweet and tart and is more like cider
than banana. The mouthfeel is round and a
bit syrupy. I'm used to seeing floaties in beer
but for some reason these floaties were a turn
off. Some of them were pretty chunky though.
I won't be revisiting this brew again.
