2014 Oude Gueuze. Poured a hazy straw color into a flute. Nice carbonation, lots of bubbles in the glass but only the faintest of bubbles around the edge of the glass as head. Good aroma of fruit (apples), yeasty funk and moderate vinegary sourness,
Flavor is more of the same. The sourness is pronounced but not off-putting for those of us that don't want a beer to taste like a glass of vinegar. Nice contrast between the apples and the sourness.
A bit pricey at $6.99 for a 12.7 oz bottle. But worth it!!! Pairs well with cheese and pears.

The beer pours with a very fluffy, pillowy, pale colored head. The beer is a lightly hazed, gold-straw color. The aroma smells of woody mushrooms, definitely musky, funkified, interesting overly ripe farmhouse cheese aromatics as well as having notes of straw and wheat towards the finish. A lactic tartness is noticeable in the nose and brings about a touch of lemon-like character or even some notes of grapefruit.
The beer is extremely tart and sour up front and finishes with a solid astringency. There is a very woody mushroom character here that is followed by a rip farmhouse cheese note. Lots of sweat soaked, sun cured blanket character further enhances the funkiness of this brew; this almost epitomizes the farmhouse funkiness that is found in Lambics, it also is bracingly lactic with hints of lemon and rounded tart grapefruit flavors. Warming brings out a hint of acetic spiciness that boosts the complexity even a bit more.
This is really my type of Gueuze; bracing sourness, extremely funky, so complex, yet so light and spritzy. This beer captures quite well in its character why I love Lambic so much. Surprisingly, this blows the 3 Fonteinen that a friend is drinking out of the water.

Tannic fink, quinine, soured pineapple skins, and dried lemon pith on the nose.
Light bodied with a flattish mouthfeel.
Soured fruit pits, grapefruit seeds, plenty of wheat-twang on the palate.
Finishes sharp, dry, and tannic with lingering sour notes.
Tasty enough, but the low carbonation robs this beer of greatness and beyond that, not too challenging.

Pours into a plain glass, a very pale and hazy yellow with a tremendous effervescence and a large, fluffy white head.
Smells pleasantly musty, with nodes of pepper and bright lemon, with some bready yeast becoming a bit more pronounced as the beer warms.
Tastes great: lively and complex. Tart yeast up front with lemon and cherries, a breadier and spicier middle, ending with black pepper and lingering lemon. Quite tart, even for the style, but never hard to drink. Also a very full flavor even while it's so drinkable. A wonderfully brewed beer.

Clear gold with stray rising carbonation, soft edges, bright clarity.
Thin layer of foam, not much but enough. Wispy skim across the surface.
Lightly funky like sourdough starter yeast. Minerally, wet wood, lemon rind, wafer candy.
Taste has a soft citric quality, lemon rind and apricot tartness. Moderately puckering, dry and woody aftertaste. Light on carbonation, sort of a soft Basque cider feel. Nice and quenching, not the most complex, but good. Hopefully over time they add more 3 year old lambic to the blend and it develops more funk and depth. A promising new direction. For a while there, De Troch had lost it's way in candyland with the artificial Chapeau line... it's redeeming that they can still produce something traditional like this.
For some interesting local lambic history in Wambeek, look up the rivalry between Louis De Troch and Lode Willems, also Artevelde brewery, run by a De Troch relative. History that some would rather forget, but nonetheless an intriguing chapter of the 20th century.

Pours a light fizzy head that disappears almost instantly, a bit of lacing and legs, very clear honey color
Nose brings loads of acidity, funky bacteria, pedio funk, Brett lambic, a little barnyard funk, mild vinous white wine, fruity but not anything specific, maybe lemon and apple but barely, a high level of funk for gueuze almost Fantome like
Taste also brings loads of acidity and funk, again big bacteria souring funk, pedio, lots of Brett lambicus, maybe some B as well with that barnyard funk, again more barnyard funk than usual, more mild fruit, white wine, apple, lemon notes, vinous, with white wine vinegar right up front, and bright acidity, finishing fairly flemmy, tart, big lemon on the finish, and white wine vinegar.
Mouth is lighter bod, loads of acidity, flemmy finish, bright carbonation too
Overall a nice gueuze, fairly well blended, lots of funk and acidity, nice fruit characters, enjoyable for one that is readily available on the shelves.

S: A big, pungent aroma that's alternately fruity, funky, a little dank, and yeasty.
T: Tasted of fruit (some citrus, some fruity esters), Belgian yeast, and a hint of malt. Very complex, very funky and extremely sour. Lots of personality in the flavor; it gets better as you go along. Excellent.
F: A lot of carbonation with a lively, clean finish. Medium-bodied.
O: An amazing example of a gueuze. Extremely well made and tasty.

An aggressive pour by Leen results in a gold body with ample carbonation.
Incredible smell. Old shoes. Stanky cheese. Rotting peaches.
Taste is over the top. Cheap Camembert rind, chlorine, a mild acidity, old lemon, tart candy, malodorous socks. Yes :-)
Mouthfeel is simply smooth and dry.
So! full of character. It was a bit overwhelming and a good beer to split. Would gladly enjoy again.
