I was up from North Carolina this past weekend visiting the area (mainly the wineries and breweries off 151), and before we went back home I was in search of a local beer shop. Now, this particular area of Virginia is a wine lover's mecca, but it's not necessarily known for its beer retail (unless you want to travel into Charlottesville). There's not much out that way. Greenwood Gourmet was recommended to me by a local as a "small place with a decent selection", but if that's all I had to work with, it'd have to do.

Upon walking in, I was met almost immediately by the beer section. Jumping right off the shelf to me was Dogfish Head 120. I can't get 120 in NC because of ABV restrictions, so I grabbed what I could (limit 1, but I had my wife grab me the other). The batch was fresh and bottled May 25th. I met Emily, the beer girl at the shop, who walked me around and pointed out some local things I needed to pick up. I also grabbed a 3 Brothers Resolute (she had it in the back), a few Lickinghole specials, and a couple Firestone items (again, no Firestone in NC).

The most surprising thing—to me anyways—was that there was still Goose Island Juliet, Halia, Gillian and Lolita bottles in the store from last November. I asked if these had been there since release and Emily notified me that they had. I think this is a safe evaluation of how overlooked Greenwood is.

If you're ever in the area, I recommend stopping in and seeing what's available. The prices are fair it seems, there's an excellent selection of food on site (gourmet cheeses, salad bar, etc.), and cool trinkets. I'll make sure to come back again when we do our Nelson County wine tours in the future.

I agree with PaulsBrew, this store carries nothing but the best products when it comes to craft beers/wine/fine goods. The staff is very friendly/knowledgeable and I would highly recommend this store to anyone, you will not be disappointed! They will definitely continue seeing my business!

A great place to find some of the worlds best brews. They carry all the local breweries/wineries products and all their food is local and made on site. Their fresh produce from local farmers give the place a country feel also. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to beer/wine and prices are very reasonable!
