I've been here twice; once on 7th and once on main. I have to say that the place on 7th just rocked. The place looked like an auto repair shop. The décor could best be described as eccentric eclectic.

The beers were good. Nothing earth shattering, but solid. At least he had his beers, which is more than I can say about Ouray Brewing Co.

He's a grouch. Excuse me, a grump, but it works for him. I will definitely drink here again, if I ever make it back to Ouray.

Mr. Grumpy Pants is an acquired taste..... I have a great time every time I stop by. Probably not the best place for tourist or uptight gapers though. He's on Main Street now. Give it a try and keep an open mind....

This is a review based upon my experiences in the summer of 2010. From what I gather, the place hasn't changed...and that's probably a good thing.
The first thing you'll notice about this place is that it's quite possibly the most quirky brewery of all time. On the outside there was a lot of writing on the windows complaining about local laws and that the hours of operation were entirely dependent on the owner’s attitude. The building looks like an old machine shed.
The place is apparently also known as "Mr. Grumpy Pants Brewing" - no joke.
Inside, the tap room looks like a large cabin. Everything is wooden, and it’s not polished or made of particle board either. Lots of climbing, rafting, and outdoor sports items decorate the room. Some are apparently the owners regular use items and he just keeps 'em there. There’s a large bar, a few tables…and a swing (like from a swing set) on a zip line that the owner sits in and uses to traverse the back areas. It’s quirky, but fun. The guy that runs the place does everything himself and proudly proclaims it’s the first job he’s ever had that he liked and made money from.
Beers weren’t necessarily grouped by normal styles, but simply based upon flavors. They had a chocolate ale, a British bitter, a dark wheat, and a hoppy pale ale. Nothing really followed normal conventions, but they were pretty good. The pale and bitter weren’t too far from typical examples, while the chocolate ale seemed to be a lighter bodied brew with chocolate malts added. The dark wheat had some European characteristics, but they were mild. Everything actually tasted quite a bit like homebrew to give you a likely production scale. I wasn’t blown away by anything, but they were solid quenchers, especially on a super hot day.
The atmosphere and quirky owner make this place what it is. The beers are okay, which doesn’t hurt, too. Don’t expect Pliny or Weihenstephaner…but you’ll get a bar experience like no other.
