This was an impressive little café! It was first and foremost, a coffee shop type place with a wide window front and the entry to the right facing. Entering, the white pine zigzag bar with matching stools ran along the left wall with a black painted wall using colored chalk to list available tap beers with an extensive bottle menu available for the asking. Seating was an eclectic mix of tables and chairs. Bar was fronted by a blue, black, and red tile mosaic. A small, short stage was in the back right corner for their open mic nights. It was a small place, but they obviously understood beer and I think that you will dig it.

Beers: Fifteen (15) rotating, all-local taps, including Midnight Sun; Sleeping Lady; and Oosik's.

Fifty (50) bottles ranging from Chimay Bleu, Koningshoeven Trippel, and Orval to five different Unibroue to a bunch of Midnight Sun beers. PBR and Smithwick's were the only non-standouts.

Stopped by for the first time and now wish we had done it sooner. It's a small little cafe/beer bar in a mini-mall in South Anchorage. Interior is different with some furniture being made out of rough logs, sort of has that Boho feel to it. The bartender mentions to us that there is usually artwork on display but we were there during the transition, so the walls were bare.
The bartender was very cool, she knows her beer and that's always a bonus when you go to a bar/cafe that touts their beer selection.

I noticed 17 taps, almost all were local beer (Midnight Sun, Sleeping Lady, Moose's Tooth, Kassik's). A few of the taps were offering Fish Tail selections. The bottle list is huge, a great selection there if you prefer to go that route.

Food menu is average-size with some apps, burgers, salads. They serve breakfast Fri - Sun. Summer operating hours are Mon-Thur 4p-midnight. Fri - Sun 9a-midnight.

The taps are always rotating, so you could either call to see what's on tap or subscribe to Dr. Fermento's blog. He manages to keep us all up to date with what is flowing around town ;-)

So now that we've finally made that first visit, we'll be sure to be coming back.

Stopped by here for beers a couple weeks ago. We sat at the bar and the place was full but not packed. Got to try Sleeping Lady's Wheatwine and Scaldis Noel on tap which were treats. I love the vibe here. Very mellow and bohemian. Some families and lots of small groups having a good time. There were a couple of solo song writers displaying their craft. This was pleasant and not in your face.

The service was solid. I rated the selection a 3.5 because while everything is a solid beer the selection is not as big as some might expect. Overall, a great hang that I will have to visit again.

I have heard that they are going to close their current location for some reason and may move. But this is hearsay at this point.

Taproot is a small cafe in a minimall is deep south Anchorage. The atmosphere is very earthy neo hippielike, similar to a mooses tooth vibe, but alot smaller and more cafe like. The tap list is written up in chalk on a wall behind the bar made out of chalkboard and changes regularly. They have 15 taps, and around 50 bottle selections. Their taps are probably about 60% locals.

The really cool part about taproot is that they carry alot of the more obscure breweries in Alaska. Homer brewing and sleeping lady taps etc. They also carry a great variety of brews from around the nation and across the pond germans, and belgians on tap. Their bottle selection is also quite good. Some great belgian selections including BSDAs, Saisons, Flemish reds, and all the rest. Also good domestic micros like the Abyss when its out, and many others. Germans, UK brews, alot of stuff.

Their tap prices are very reasonable. Bottle prices are a touch pricey, but overall ok.

The food is pretty good with many selections. I am a big fan of the sandwiches myself.

A good beer bar to meet friends or other beer geeks at for lunch or afternoon brews. They have live music pretty often and occasional other art venues as well as having local artists work up on the walls. Becoming a well known beer bar in Anchorage.
