Notes: We’ve rounded up some great malts and hops for Hoppy Ki Yay IPA, our year round IPA. This straw colored ale is hopped with Columbus and Amarillo and rounded out by a mild body from the malts.

Poured into a shaker pint glass: color is gold/copper, head presents 1/2 inch with large bubbles and then dissipate to a ring along the glass sides.

Smell is crisp, clean malt, light toast, mixed hop notes with citrus, pine, light herbs.

Taste is similar with good malt base, cleanly fermented, bitterness is blend of citrus rind, pine, herbs - good, bitter ipa.

Mouthfeel is crisp, moderate carbonation, lingering bitterness.

Overall a solid IPA, like a good base take on the style - good malt presence/flavor, quite bitter to follow.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy, dark golden/orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of light pine, hints of malts. Taste is pine, minty, dank, some malts are present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, drinkable, but the flavors just aren't meshing together.

Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a clear golden orange with a medium sized white head. The aroma is hops and citrus. The taste matches the aroma but also has a noticeable amount of malt.

Poured a fairly substantial head with a clear amber body.

Smell is quite sweet for an IPA, with dare I say almost some Belgian influences of cloves, coriander, caramel and a slight scent of yeast (although, not necessarily of the Belgian variety).

Taste is interesting, but I have a hard time to love it. The Belgian influences are still there, but with a maltier backdrop. I get some very slight piney hops as well. Mouthfeel is unremarkable, and basically what one would expect from the style.

Pours a chill hazed deep gold/pale amber producing 2+ fingers of frothy, moderately lasting, beige head that leaves webs, blotches & motes of clumpy lace. Abundant effervesce rises from the bottom long after the pour. Aroma is a fairly balanced mix of caramel malt, honey, grapefruit, floral, resinous pine & a hint of tropical fruit. Taste is also a balanced mix of caramel malt, graham cracker, grapefruit/orange juice, backed up by a hint of resinous pine. Starts sweet, finishes bittersweet with notes of caramel, pine, grapefruit/orange zest/juice but rapidly transitioning to a bitter, astringent aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, moderate-high carbonation, juciy, peppery with a slight prickle, drawing & drying in aftertaste.

The manager at the Richmond bottle shop recommended this. Nice color, nice aroma, taste is very hop/malt heavy. Tasted kind of creamy and piney, very good. I like this as much as Nugget Nectar, Pliny the Elder .

Poured from a can into a wine glass (that is all that was available at this location). I blame the initial good taste on the cheap picante noodles that accompanied the beverage. By the time the noodles are done, a definite alcohol flavor coming through. In the end, just another mediocre IPA...
