A wandering Lonerider, never staying in one place too long. Deadeye Jack represents our seasonal porter consisting of a strong malty background with hints of roasted chocolate, subtle sweetness and low hop bitterness.

Very dark brown with dark mahogany highlights. The chestnut head builds to a foamy half inch before quickly fading to a veil and leaving spotty lace on a Pretentious Glass Company Imperial Snifter.
The aroma opens with cigar ash, followed by Bakers' chocolate and mildly roasted cacao. Toasted bread is also apparent after some warmth. This is not at all what I had expected.
The flavor follows the nose. The roasted qualities continue to be mild and are present front to back. The chocolate is gritty. Sweetness is in balance with the roasted bitterness and both are rather mild. The finish is mild and lingering.
The alcohol is as expected, perhaps lightened by prickly carbonation. The body is medium to light, with the texture of denim. That is to say, simultaneously soft and stiff.
This is a decent beer, although it is a bit ho-hum. Mild smokiness comes out late with warmth to add character on a cold and snowy Sunday afternoon.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Nearly black pour with 1.5 fingers of off-white head. Solid lacing.
S: Roast and chocolate plus a dash of coffee.
T.F: Kind of flat on the flavor. Some roast character and chocolate. Expected more malt/sweetness... but not much bitterness either. Overall feels muted. Medium bodied... sticky on the tongue.
O: Looks good and smells good. Flavor just off with nothing standing out. Not one I'd pick up again.

12 ounce can poured into a tulip glass.
L---Poured through light, the liquid was clear. In the glass, it's opaque dark brown with reddish tinges around the edges. Nice thick tan head fades slowly and leaves very good lacing.
S---More coffee than the advertised chocolate. Roasty malts throughout.
T---Again, more the unadvertised coffee than the advertised chocolate. Not that there's anything wrong with that. A bit bitter from the coffee & dark chocolate. No real hops notes anywhere.
F---Medium bodied. Creamy feel.
O---Two thumbs up. Porters get left by the side of the road these days with everyone wanting BA stouts. This is a damn fine effort.

Poured into a narrow pint glass: color is dark brown, near black; head is tan with fine bubbles, head presents at least 1/2 inch thick then dissipates and leaves a solid top but minimal lacing on the glass sides.
Smell is very pleasant with roasted malt, chocolate.
Taste follows with roasted malt, moderate cocoa, hints of smoke and then some subtle grassy hops. Good flavor.
Mouthfeel is a bit on the crisp side with moderate to strong carbonic bite and lingering presence.
Overall a good porter with full flavor and great presentation.

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can poured into a snifter. The beer pours a chocolate brown color with a frothy and rocky khaki colored head of 3 cm foaming up even with a gentle pour. The foam recedes fairly quickly to a surface foam and leaves tight lattice as it drops. Eventually only a sturdy edge layer and one island of foam remains in my glass.
The aroma is a lot of chocolate, mostly on the sweeter side, but also some roasted malt and some mild coffee hit. No booze hints here and I dont get any hops making a showing here either.
The first sip reveals an average body with silky texture and very fine gentle rolling carbonation. Each swallow leaves a smooth coating on my palate.
The flavor is sweet milk chocolate up front with some roasted malt in the middle and finishes with some more chocolate. This isnt a sweet dessert chocolate beer, but isnt all roast either.
No hops that I can really detect and certainly no booze, making this a very easy to drink beer.
Glad to have tried it and thank you to my bro CUrt for the gift!

Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a bubbly tan head that doesn’t linger too long. Solid dry malt quality and a nice, lacey finish. Nothing too complex, but again, a solid brew, Lonerider rarely disappoints.

L - pours with thick tan head that takes several minutes to recede and leave a covering of foam, leaving behind a spotting of lacing. Nearly black in color.
S - mostly roasted malts and coffee aromas. Slightly yeasty.
T - Sweet malts. chocolate, iced late, slightly bitter black malts nicely balance caramel sweetness. Little to no perceivable hop flavor.
F - pleasantly full to medium body, maybe a touch too much carbonation.
O - Very impressed, solid brewery as I have come to expect, but I am often disappointed by american porters. This one is likely to be knocked back by me on future occasions.

All-around solid porter. It's on the sweeter side, though there's a light kick of herbal hops at the end. It's big on creamy chocolate, followed by dark toast and toffee. Worth a try for dark beer lovers.

Thanks to FriedSlug for this rockin' porter!
Pours a dark black body with a nice frothy beige head.
Aromas of coffee, chocolate syrup, lactose, and roasted barley.
Flavor has a touch of soy sauce, but beyond that is pretty complex and consists of dark coffee, chocolate, roast barley, and lactose/chocolate milk.
Flavor is carbonated up front to start, followed by a milky body and a roasty finish.
Overall, Deadeye Jack is a pretty decent porter. A "Very Good" rating is about perfect. Not the best, but better than good!
