On-tap at The Olympic Tavern in Rockford, IL a few weeks ago.

A - Hazy piss. Spot on!

S - Bready, slight grassy hop, grain bomb.

T - Wow. This is the best kellerbier/traditional lager I have ever had. Amazing fruity (thank you, yeast) and light grassy flavors (Saaz?) layered with sweet, biscuity malt. Extremely flavorful. Dry finish. An absolute pleasure to drink this.

M - Light, crisp, carbonated. Served slightly cooler than room temp.

O - Get this. Good god. I pray this reaches bottles some day. Metropolitan proves once again that they really know lagers.

Two drafts at Ground Control.

Hazy gold color with lively carbonation. Two fingers of creamy foam that has a softly textured meringue surface. Lasting retention with concentric rings of soapy lace in the glass.

Aroma is mild and bready, smooth with no rough edges.

Taste is also nuanced and smooth, snappy, bready, and clean. This goes down so very smooth. Crisp with light yeasty presence, slight prickly carbonation. Mild cracker and bread crust. Very refreshing and so easy to drink, I hope this is a candidate for sixers. Paired well with spicy chile-infused food.

One of the best American zwickelbier's I've had. Metropolitan has to be considered among the best American lager breweries. Hazy glow, moderate spicey hop presence, bready, grassy. Dry, crushable. Craft beer gateway drug.

On-draught @ Howells and Hood, Chicago. Brief notes taken live on a phone below:

A: White head. 5 minute retention. Soft looking. Fluffy.

Lemon yellow colour with ample haze. No yeast character or hoo sediment is visible.

Sm: Lemon zest. Yeast. Musty cellared malt notes. Damp hay. Muted grassy Hops. Rich from the yeast.

Aromatic intensity is below average.

T/Mf: Refreshing and medium-bodied. Surprisingly estery for a lager, but clean and well attenuated. Clean barley, Munich malts. Vitaminy and lively. Musty damp hay/straw.

Smooth, wet, well-carbonated. Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, or harsh.

O: Drinkable, and nice for a zwickl. I wouldn't get it again with the availability of traditional takes on the style, but it's great to see more zwicklbiere on the market. Worth trying, but far from world class.
