Style: Kölsch

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Brewed in homage to the beer of Cologne, Krankshaft is a pale straw hued smile in a glass. We throw in a little wheat malt to round out an easy Santiam hop bitterness. There are no Köbes to serve them up, but you should feel free to have as many as you like.

6/19/17 - On tap at Sweetwater restaurant on Michigan Ave in Chicago. Served ice cold in a tall goblet. Clear yellow with snow white head. No lacing. Went down fast. Easy drinking and refreshing. I had a second.

Served on-tap in a willi at Miller's Pub (Chicago, IL).

A: Slightly hazy lemon yellow with solid 1/2-1 finger white frothy head with good retention and lacing.

S: Delicious grainy pils, slightly tangy probably from wheat and spicy and lightly floral hopping

T: Flavor definitely outdoes the subdued aroma with blasts of grainy, moderately sweet and tangy pils maltiness followed by floral, lightly spicy, and more lemony hops which works great with the tangy maltiness. It is not sour but brushes up against it to provide a full flavor. Light bitterness.

M: Crisp and clean with tanginess that adds to the body without hurting the dryness in the finish.

O: I had been kicking around the idea of doing a kolsch for summer, and after tasting my most recent and disappointing hop experiment APA, I may take a shot at something more refreshing and clean.

Very pale, clear color with a rapidly diminishing head of 2 fingers. Mossy pond scum on top after it fades.

Fresh, crisp golden delicious apples, light dry spice, cider.

Flavors of picked apples out front, followed by stiff grains, spice rack, and cured apple. Some dry, sour bread dipped in apple cider vinegar on the finish. The flavor just grows old and painful as it continues to warm degree by degree.

Feel is the most impressive thing here by far, it starts out wet and carbonated, and just scrapes the tongue dry as it finishes and fades on the palate.

Overall, it's not half bad. I am mainly knocking out some of these beers to see which ones I should go back for tomorrow. This one I'll pass on when I revisit Binny's again.

Clean and crisp with an astringent, slightly salty finish. At Publican Tavern in O'Hare airport. Chose the beer then decided what to pair it with. Chicken sandwich was a good choice.

My first time trying this style. First beer from Metropolitan as well. Poured into stange glass which I rarely use. Clean, crisp and refreshing! Color is a light apple, pear-ish color with faint, tart fruit in the finish. Nice beer.

I took a whiff and said "wow"
12oz bottle poured into a pint glass shows a straw colored nodyflosting an aggressive soapy-bubble head.
Aroma is a clean fresh orange citrus almost apple hint.
Flavors include a bread-like touch to the fruit.
Feel is medium and falling heavy, but the fruit keeps it clean and a wet finish.
